Swelling Pregnancy

I'm 36 + 3 days and from around 30 weeks I've had some slight swelling in my hands and my feet. I mentioned to my midwife but she didn't seem concerned.

Over the past two days the swelling has gotten even worse, and I can't actually get my shoes on!! I am a FTM so asked my mum for advice since she had 4 kids and she has told me I should call my midwife but I just don't want to seem like an overly cautious pest - I know it may sound silly but I haven't been worried because I mentioned my swelling before and midwife didn't seem fussed.

Has anyone else any experience with swelling? Any advice welcome!

I had horrendous swelling - like you it started minor but by the end of my pregnancy I only had one pair of shoes that fit and it was only with all the laces totally loosened, my feet and hands were just huge! I was checked for pre eclampsia but it wasn't that, just a side effect of pregnancy. I think it's better to be cautious and contact your midwife but be reassured that it can be normal even when it feels quite extreme.

Do call your midwife, it's better not to chance preeclampsia going undiagnosed. I've been looking into this recently because my hands and feet are pretty swollen, but what has reassured me is i don't have any other symptoms and the swelling has come on gradually. A quick increase in swelling, like your two days, would be enough for me to give them a ring.

Not trying to worry you, I'm sure you're down, it's just not worth risking it!

I would defo encourage you to get checked out and keep An eye on it- I had horrendous swelling from 34 weeks - so bad I put on 2 stone in 3 weeks Could only wear giant flip flops!! I also had high blood pressure and they monitored me every few days but eventually it turned to pre eclampsia and had an emcs at 37 weeks. I think this pregnancy I will be much more quick to get seen if the swelling returns , you have my sympathy it is terrible! Put me off the thought of another pregnancy but here I am again and dreading the swelling that no doubt will come !
