I'm 29+4 and keep getting the occasional heart palpitation and sharp pain in my chest. Is this normal? Do I need to ring 111 to be sure?

Hi, I work in a cardiology department doing mostly ultrasound on the heart. There are lots of possible explanations but the only way to find out (and rule out a serious problem) is to get proper medical advice. Call 111, or try a walk in centre. If the pain lasts longer than about 15 minutes then call 999 or go straight to A&E - don't drive there yourself.

Also if the palpitations make you feel dizzy or light headed or especially if you feel like you might pass out, again you need 999 it's a medical emergency. Please don't take any risks waiting for things to settle, get them investigated.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and all the best, I hope everything is fine for you and your baby but please please get checked out urgently.

No one can diagnose you here.

It could be normal or not.

As others said I would ring your maternity unit and tell them. They'll probably ask you to come in and get checked.
