Boy/Girl myths - any truth?

Hi everyone!
I was just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on boy v girl signs - some people call them old wives tales, but so many people keep telling me about them!
I’ve had very bad morning sickness, and everyone keeps telling me it must be a girl. I’ve also had really bad spots, greasy hair and skin, and hairs growing on my chin (?!) - generally feeling very ugly, which apparently also means I’m having a girl?!
What do you think? Do you know any more? My sister mentioned something about a piece of hair and my wedding ring 😂😂

PS. I’m 13+1 weeks pregnant and have no preference for either gender! Feeling a bit anxious ahead of my dating scan tomorrow so this is just a little bit of fun! x

I was soo unwell with my son up until Labour at 41 week's ... my sickness stopped with my daughter at 9 weeks. I'm pregnant again with another boy and currently at 32 week's and still have very bad sickness!!

I keep hearing how he will be hairy because i.have such bad heart burn lol.

Dav87 · 21/01/2020 22:50

Hmm, doesn’t look like there’s much truth in the sickness one then, haha!
Heartburn = hairy baby, never heard that one but I’ll add it to my list 😂
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Bad skin, crap hair and had a girl, but had no sickness at all :)

OneTooManyBathtimes · 21/01/2020 23:11

Was seriously sick with both, had one of each. Major heartburn with DD so that was a bit Accurate as she had more hair than my DS but wouldn't say she had loads. In fact, I've known many babies have much more hair than her when born.

I also had amazing skin, hair and nails for both so can't attest to any of those.

Hotpinkangel19 · 21/01/2020 23:12

I had 2 boys and 2 girls, I was so ill carrying my girls, sickness, high blood pressure, not so much with the boys. Good luck!!!

sweetkitty · 21/01/2020 23:20

I’ve had four babies 3 girls and a boy, nothing different when pregnant with the boy. Carried them all the same bump shape wise. Felt like death first 12 weeks, SPD after that.

According to the old wives I should have had 4 boys

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/01/2020 07:31

I was so sick at the start - ive been told its a boy. Im 31 weeks so we'll see if its actually true.

I dont pay much attention to the old wives tails!

Boymummy3 · 22/01/2020 07:50

I've just had my 3rd boy and every pregnancy was different from the sickness/heartburn... Exhaustion the way my bump was etcc even down to cravings they have all been different so I'd say the 'old wives tales' although accurate for 50% of people they wont be for the other 50%

My two sons I was sick from day 1 until I gave birth, full on vomiting, hair thickened (fell out so badly after the doctor said she thinks it’s alopecia). I gained weight all over. I had a proper pregnancy glow in my skin.

Daughter I felt nauseous but never actually threw up, I craved sugar and sweet stuff but also vegetables became like the holy grail of taste. Skin horrendous, I’ve developed 2 spots that still haven’t shifted 6 weeks later, my hair is still really thick though.

I reckon it’s all in the leg hair. If it grows faster than before it’s a bit Grin

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 22/01/2020 08:11

I had zero morning sickness
Hair and skin normal

I had a girl.....

What I did notice though

  • didn't need to shave hair on legs anywhere near as often so hair must have grown slower
  • she always had a high heart rate when tested
  • her heart beat sounded like galloping horses rather than a train
  • Chinese moon chart prediction was correct
kerkyra · 22/01/2020 08:32

Ah the ring test! I did this twenty years ago and it worked on me with my first two. It's just a bit of fun though.
Tie a ring or needle to some thread and hang over the belly an inch or two up. If it swings in a circle...girl. back and forth a boy. But it is only for fun so dont take seriously

mywrencalls · 22/01/2020 10:20

I'm 13+3, had nausea but no vomiting between weeks 6 to 12, skin has been fine, hair fine. Haven't eaten anything sweet whatsoever since week 6.
Energy has been pretty good, mood has been stable and no mood swings.

I've got a strong feeling it's a boy, I paid to have the gender Sneak Peek test done so will get the results back this week and know for sure.

I will be surprised if it's a girl, no idea why, I'm just having really strong boy vibes. My mum and sister craved sweet things and they had girls, so maybe I'm just subconsciously thinking it's a boy because I hate everything sweet haha.

Catlover10 · 22/01/2020 10:27

I had very similar symptoms to you and I’m having a boy, I don’t think there’s is any clear evidence in the theories 😂 other than the nub theory which has proven to be correct many times, if you have a clear scan photo

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/01/2020 10:33

I believe girls have a higher heartbeat in around 70% of cases. Not much to go on I know...

avocadont · 22/01/2020 11:42

I was absolutely positive I'm having a boy. I've got hair I barely need to wash (don't worry I still do) I've had a few spots but only seems to happen when I wear makeup for work or events, pretty dry skin- lips way too dry. No morning sickness at all although pregnancy vitamins make me feel very ill regardless of what brand or how/when I take them... Nub theory said boy (although I'm not very well practiced), heartbeat said boy, but then 20 week scan said girl, recent 4D scan also confirmed girl.

So who knows! All the signs were pointing to boy as well. I guess you never really know. I'm pretty confident that I'm having a girl now if both ultrasounds said so haha. The private scan even gave me a lovely picture of her "hamburger" to keep, not sure what I'll need that for!!!
