Urine test came back with UTI - no symptoms?

I’ve just had a call from my GP to say my urine test has shown I have a UTI and to contact my midwife to advise her, I’ve had literally no symptoms at all and nothing to make me think something is up, is this normal?

I’m worried that I’ve had it for ages if I’ve not had symptoms and that it’s caused damage, I have never had a UTI before (to my knowledge).

Has this happened to anyone else?

That's happened to me in a previous pregnancy and I found out I have group b strep

I had it in my first pregnancy. It got quite bad by the time it was diagnosed - no problems peeing or any of that (not that I noticed above normal frequent trips to the bathroom in pregnancy). In me, it manifested itself as really bad headaches, an inability to concentrate or think clearly, and just making me feel generally very poorly.

It cleared up very quickly after I started the antibiotics. I went on to have a very happy, healthy baby. Try not to worry.

This happened to me to. I tested positive for group B strep and was given some antibiotics which are safe to take whilst pregnant

@Delbelleber @poccadot how did you both find out you had group b strep, did they tell you then or did you need further tests?

@SnoozyLou I’m going to collect antibiotics tonight so hopefully it clears up and all is okay! 😫

@Jj93x I had to do a vaginal swab which was tested

@Jj93x Honestly, please try not to worry. My first midwife didn't test my sample there and then at my 8 week appointment, and it got lost in the ether. I was walking around with it for more than a month, and apart from me being poorly, everything was fine. Antibiotics were fine too.

I had this. No symptoms, noticed in routine midwife app, prescribed antibiotics, it went away. No problem. Very common.

People are worried about them in pregnancy because they can make you go into labour early in very extreme cases - but if that hasn't happened to you (which it sounds like it hasn't) then no need to panic that I know of.

I think they found it in my urine sample. They grow the bacteria at the lab. I can't remember now really but antibiotics cleared the urine infection and they give you antibiotics at the birth as well so the baby doesnt get it.
