Well just that.
Is there any thing I need to know, watch out for or ask about?

Just had a few pains and my cs scar is hurting but no bleeding so hopefully nothing to worry about.

Thanks

How early is it? If it's very early then be prepared that it will be an internal scan- painless but a probe inserted upwards. If you're having an internal scan you need to empty your bladder before you go- but the radiographer will tell you that

aquababe · 30/08/2007 18:22

erm 5weeks
that internal scan thing doesn't sound so good

you will probably not see an awful lot at 5 weeks, you might well see that the baby is in the right place, but too early to see an embryo shape and heartbeat, that is around 7 + weeks

the internal scan is not that bad, you will be asked to remove your trousers and knickers, lay down on the bed, and cover yourself with a sheet. so you are not too exposed.

you might be asked to lift your bum up a bit, or move, to ensure the sonographer gets a good picture

it should not be painful, and won't take too long

hope it goes well

lissielou · 30/08/2007 18:25

you will need an internal scan, it doesnt hurt, its just a bit uncomfortable

Pixiefish · 30/08/2007 18:25

internal scan is no bother- to put it crudely it's a bit like a dildo with a condom on it

aquababe · 30/08/2007 18:27

don't know why I thought it'd be gel on tummy

my 20month dd will be with me that'll be ok won't it.

i think doc wanted to make sure it was in the right place not expecting heart beat

they will probably do the gel thing first....they did with me.Do not worry, are you taking a pram?? it would be better if dd is in pram

aquababe · 30/08/2007 18:32

God knows how I'd of reacted at being told to take my trousers off otherwise and pushchair sounds like a must.

i had my first internal scan at 5 weeks as she couldnt see properly on abdominal scanner. While she was telling me to remove trousers, underwear jump up on the couch dp was getting whiter and whiter (tee hee) then when he saw the probe he turned a nice shade of green, then when she put the condom on it he looked as if he was about to pass out!!! It was so funny!! it doesnt hurt at all except for when they slip and try to get it to come out of your hip doubt they all do that tough lol

iliketosleep · 30/08/2007 18:47

i meant though not tough

this is a great site for info on early u/s's

chopster · 30/08/2007 19:46

Ive had several very early scans in two pf my pregnancies but never acually had an internal. I jsut would go in with an open mind and don't expect to find out too much. The only thing I really learnt from mine was everythings ok, and the foetus is xmms big!

aquababe · 31/08/2007 13:49

I had one at 7 weeks (internal) and the twinnies looked like fresh water shrimps (or anchovies as OH said). All see though with a heart beat. Think plankton
Think they were about 16mm each.

mumzyof2 · 31/08/2007 21:16

it depends where you are doesnt it? Im not sure, but i thought the internal thing was american? because iv never heard of anybody having one in the UK, always an ultasound, the jelly on belly routine.

BetsyBoop · 01/09/2007 10:01

no internal scans are not just used in the US - are available at most Early Pregnancy units in the UK - they only see people with potential problems, so they are not routine by any means.

I had a couple of them in my first pregnancy - they are mostly used up until about 8wks when they can generally see things ok with an abdominal scan.

iliketosleep · 01/09/2007 18:01

im from the uk and i had an internal scan
