Is period pain in week 6 normal?

Hi chaps, yes, yes I know I'm probably being overly paranoid but it has taken four years and now I'm Up The Duff!!! Hooray!! And in Week 6!

However, slightly anxious/neurotic/paranoid/add your own adjective here, as have had period pain the whole time, which is much better when I'm lying down, and horrid when I'm standing up.

Rang the EPAC nurse and she said it was normal, but just to reassure me, do lots of other ppl get it too??

Trawled through the net and have now scared myself witless :O)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Greenapple - I've walked in your shoes!

It's normal to feel anxious and scared about every twinge (or lack of) especially if you've waited a long time to get pregnant. It took me 4 years as well and then i found out i was 6 weeks gone just after my birthday.

I got exactly the same thing from around the time my period was due up to about 8 weeks. I still get the odd pang now.
I also scared myself witless by reading too many pregnancy guides and websites. I was so convinced there was something wrong that I was terrified to have my 8-week scan but there's a good strong heartbeat there.

When are you due?

greenapple · 30/08/2007 19:08

oh thank you all so much for the advice, v. happier now :O)

due on april 30th, hooray!! still can't believe it so I'm lying on the sofa listening to the Archers and trying to keep calm!

Yes. Had it with my first and a lovely midwife said I was probably miscarrying and would have to go to hospital for a D & C.
Managed to get an early scan at just over 8 weeks and that little heartbeat is now a tall, healthy 6 year old!! The pain was stretching IIRC.

didsnbump · 30/08/2007 21:26

Hi ya,

I know exactly how you feel as i was the same, i worried my self silly with things i found on the web. I suffered with period pains from when my period was due and they never seemed to go. Im now 20+5 wks and am still getting them, just less often as i did.

As everyone else has said they are just growing pains and they keep going all the way through. Sometimes it is all abit scary but the way i see it is if your getting pains (bareable ones anyway) then everything is growing as it should be!

Minicooper · 31/08/2007 09:34

Hi, greenapple, I had this too and paniced after a very helpful doctor said it was bad news... I went to my EPU who were great and gave me a very early scan. All was absolutely fine - am 27 weeks now with hands and feet sticking out everywhere, so try not to worry, but see your EPU if it will put your mind at rest - it did me! Good luck!

designerbaby · 31/08/2007 10:13

HI Greenapple - yes I had this too...

Our little one was a bit of an accident (a happy one, allbeit!) so I wasn't in any way expecting to be pregnant - finally did a test at about week 7, but had been convinced that my period was going to start any minute for about 3 weeks prior - was getting cramps exactly like period pains the entire time - kept dashing to the loo, expecing it to have arrived...

After 3 weeks and it stil hadn't I decided I was either pregnant or had some horrible disease...

How dumb am I?

So I'd say from my experience it's probably completely normal - and congratulations!

Me too, with both pgs. In fact, with 2nd, I was swimming and thought 'hmm, that feels like it did when I was pregnant the 1st time'. Then a week or two later I thought, 'hmm, that's annoying, all my clothes are getting tight again' (ds1 was only 5 mo at this stage). Still took me about a week for the penny to drop and for me to go and get a pg test. D'oh.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 31/08/2007 10:37

Greenapple I am the same! Although mine is mainly in my back and left side. I am due on 27th April so we can be scared together I went to the EPU as was so worried and had a scan on Tuesday all looked ok although too early to see my bud just the sac I am having another scan on 11th to make sure all is ok and they see a heart beat. If your really worried go to your doctor and they can refer you for an early scan. But as the lady who scanned me said the likelyhood is that is just your ligaments stretching and everything moving about!

mumzyof2 · 31/08/2007 21:44

Oooo, im due on 21st April, there must have been a fair few romantic nights 6 or 7 weeks ago!! Everybodies due in April!
Congatulations on your pregnancy, you must be over the moon.

littlemissturquoise · 01/09/2007 08:45

mumyzof2 - I am due on April 21st too! I have been having the same feelings, greenapple. I think that they are exciting! How are you all feeling in general, fellow April due-ers? I could eat macaroni cheese everyday and can't stand eating fruit and salad at the moment - I normally eat loads of both!! Mmmmmmmm, "Cheese Gromit" - not soft/blue obviously!

EdieMcredie · 01/09/2007 10:22

Yes I had it. I had a previous miscarriage so it scared me witless too but all was fine and it is perfectly normal. I kept going to my GP for reassurance and they would advise that I must stop comparing it to period pain as it was 'round ligament pain' and although it feels like the same thing it's obviously not. It only scares us as we associate period pain with bleeding.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/09/2007 14:07

congratulations

I had pain too, am now nearly 23 weeks and still get achey at times. Is perfectly normal and very common. Rest when you are uncomfortable and tak it easy on yourself.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy x

spugs · 01/09/2007 16:23

cramp is normal as long as no bleeding, i ve had it with all mine and always been sure my af was coming.

congratulations

deaconblue · 01/09/2007 18:11

yes,it's frightening htough and no one warns you about it. I was convinced I was going to start my period even though I had 3 postive pregnacny tests. Apparently it is your uterus growing

3sEnough · 01/09/2007 18:12

Yup - totally normal - you'll miss it if you have more than 1 as you don't get nearly so many pains with successive pregnancies...I was disappointed!

MamaMaiasaura · 02/09/2007 00:16

3sEnough - I find i am getting more. MW said the pain gets worse .. woo hoo something to look forward too

monthlymayhem · 02/09/2007 09:44

If it's any help I had period like pains around 4-5 weeks and then again between 7-8 weeks. Am now 12 weeks and it's definitely eased off. I know how worrying it is - I was constantly knicker checking, but as others have said as long as there is no bleeding it's apparently very normal and just means the embryo is snuggling into your womb Try not to worry x
