Just out of curiosity, what did everyone buy for their baby?

How much of each clothing item etc.. toys, furniture etc..

We haven't got a lot of toys yet, mainly as he won't be able to get a lot of benefit from them for a while, just a few bears/comforters and a mat to lie on.

With clothes we've stuck to mainly baby gros and vests in the smaller sizes but got a selection of newborn and the next size up just as we don't know how big he'll be! We've got bits in a few sizes up to 6 monthsish just so we'll always have a small selection when we need it rather than getting to that point and not. Got all of the usual things like car seat, pram etc.

We've just tried to think of what he might need and tried not to succumb to any fads that he wouldn't appreciate or really need

We bought
Furniture: cot bed, chest of drawers, bookcase, crib for lounge.
Other big stuff: stroller which lay flat, carrycot that fit onto it, infant carseat.
Play: bouncer, playmat with an arch over it, few tiny rattles and a soft teddy.
Clothes: 12 sleepsuits, 12 vests, 2 cardigans, 2 hats. We didn't buy outfits or socks or scratch mitts as the sleepsuits had these. A thin zip up all in one fleece for outside.
Other: bottles and milk (after finishing bfing), dummy in case it was needed, small muslins for feeds and general mopping up, giant muslins for swaddling, nappies and wipes, change mat (changed on the floor or on the bed), three smallish blankets for the pushchair, few sheets for the cot bed mattress, nappy cream, thermometer, sling, little soft ramp to bathe them in the big bath.

We've bought:

  • pram & car seat
  • steriliser, pump & bottles
  • monitor
  • sling / carrier

Already got cot from DD1

Not too worried about buying toys & clothes. Last time we received more gifts than we needed. Also limited on space now do not buying items until we actually need them (e.g. will get highchair when ready to wean etc).

Honestly don't think you need much for a newborn really.
