First scan not til 13-14 weeks?

Hiii, so this is my first baby and I’ve recently had my 1st booking appointment with the midwife.

She mentioned that they will contact me with a date for my dating scan when I’m closer to 13-14 weeks rather than 12, is this normal?

I’m just worried as I had a private scan and they’ve dated me around 5 days further along than my LMP date and I don’t want this scan to be done too late. Is it worth booking another private scan at the 12 week mark?

Worth noting I do have anxiety and have a horrible fear or having a MMC and was really hoping my scan would be soon just for my own peace of mind :( I’m currently 10w2d based on my last private scan

Thanks in advance ladies

X

I would give them a call up in the morning and explain your concerns and if they won't book you in earlier and you can afford a private one, then I would get the private one to put your mind at ease. Hope u get sorted x

My NHS scan is this week and I will be 13+3. I had the same with my first baby too.

I had a private scan at 12 weeks as I was fed up of waiting.

Scans need to be done before 14 weeks so as long as its before 14 weeks it's fine x

The importance of getting the date right with the dating scan is for the NT mesurement. It needs to be done by 13+6 although my Trust say 14+1 for some reason. Maybe they are extending the time frame??

If the measurement is taken after this date, then I don't think they offer the combined screening (which is calculated from the NT mesurement, age and blood results). I think they offer the quadruple screening instead which isn't as accurate.

I was worried about this as my scan wasn't until 13+something and in my first pregnancy the date was moved forwards a few days so was worried that would happen again. As it turns out, the date was brought forward but it was still just within the cutoff.

If I was you, I would call the scanning department and ask for any cancellations. I was advised to do that by the MW but it didn't work for me as there weren't any. Then try the midwife if unsuccessful.
I don't see the point of getting another private scan unless they offer the combined screening as that is the really important bit of the timing of the dating scan.
