20 weeks pregnant and not showing

Stephw306 · 18/01/2020 20:24

I am 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I am not showing. I perhaps look a little bloated and that’s it. I keep getting comments that I don’t look pregnant or people look at my stomach when I say how far gone I am.

I haven’t had much of an appetite for the whole second trimester and I am getting worried that she is not growing like she should be. Some mornings I am still being sick too.

I’m 5ft 8 with an hourglass figure so I normally have a small waist so I am not sure if this is why I am not showing? I am still wearing the same jeans that I was before pregnancy too.

I just hope that everything is ok!

Absolutely normal! I am 5ft 7 with a similar figure by the sounds of things and when I was pregnant I didn’t show properly until about 30 weeks. Now have a 3 month old and I look the same as before pregnancy (absolute luck - no gym or dieting!).
I had the loss of appetite too, didn’t really come back until after DD was born.

Have you had your 20 week scan? They will check everything is fine which I’m sure it is Smile
Congratulations!

I wasnt showing at 20 weeks either first baby. I'm nearly 30 weeks now and only just finally getting enough of a bump that people can see I'm pregnant without having to say anything. I'm 5ft 6in. I have a retroverted womb which is most likely contributing to this and lost 15lbs first trimester due to hyperemesis but I've been told baby is growing well and all good from a scan i had at 28 weeks.

Stephw306 · 18/01/2020 20:46

Thank you Smile
My scan is on Monday but I’ve just been getting really worried. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one though! I have a friend who is 20 weeks too and she is showing lots and on her first too. It’s just the comments too that make me worry!

I've had a lot of comments from people about me not having a bump and how can I be so many weeks and not be showing etc. I try to block it out my mind as much as possible and not let it get to me. I try to remember everyone is different and each pregnancy and bump is different.
When you have your scan definitely ask to see where your baby is on the growth chart and ask any questions you have.

Willow4987 · 18/01/2020 21:04

Everyone carries babies differently so try not to worry!!!

My SIL and I were pregnant at the same time, her bump was non-existent compared to mine - her DS was actually bigger than mine at birth. Her DS was just all up in her ribs etc, whereas mine was all out front!

They’ll check at the 20 week scan at the size of baby and your midwife will start measuring the bump when you’re further into the pregnancy. Any growth concerns they will regularly scan you but honestly don’t worry! I’ve seen people on Instagram who are 9 months pregnant who just look a bit blotted and have perfectly healthy and normal sized babies

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 18/01/2020 21:27

I wasn’t showing either at 20 weeks. Went to my scan in my normal size 10 jeans. I hate the fact that people need to comment on size of bump. Everyone carries differently. I started having a more of a bump around 24 weeks ish. I’m sure it will show soon

squee123 · 19/01/2020 14:38

I've been an hourglass size 10 most of my adult life. I'm currently 27 weeks and only just have a bump which I expect others to find noticeable. But people still look surprised and comment when I tell them and everyone immediately does a double take look at my stomach. My colleagues are forever commenting that I don't look six months gone. Baby is bang on the 50th centile with no concerns

Montythemooseisatitagain · 19/01/2020 15:24

I didn’t show very much with DD1. I wasn’t showing at 20 weeks pregnant. I’m only 5ft2 but hour glass shaped.

I was worried throughout the pregnancy. Everyone kept making comments as well which was annoying. Especially my MIL “well X is measuring huge etc, she’s going to have a big baby etc etc” (X who was pregnant at the same time did have a big bump but her DS was 6lb11 so doesn’t mean anything). Even when I went to be induced the midwife said my bump was small. DD ended up being 18 days late and she was 9lb1 at birth so I don’t know where she was hiding!

Currently pregnant with DC2 and am 23 weeks now and not showing much either although more than last time.

Although both pregnancies I grew side ways a bit Hmm

Being tall and hour glass shaped probably just means you hide it well but don’t worry.

Peoples comments get very fucking annoying though.

Congratulations! Flowers

I didn't show until about 28 weeks and I was just very neat throughout. It swings and roundabouts, my bump was small and I was back in my jeans 4 days after having my baby BUT I had horrendous rib pain throughout my third trimester as she was shoved tightly in my ribs. I had a small 5lb baby but still needed an episiotomy too so it's just all relative.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2020 15:33

It's your first baby and you are tall. I'm also tall & didn't show with my first for ages. Don't worry.

moonsmarshmellow · 19/01/2020 15:35

Really normal, I remember my first pregnancy I really expected to have a small but obvious bump by around 3/4 months and was shocked at how long it took to even look pregnant. Strangers could only really tell by around 30 weeks, by the very end I had an obvious but still very neat bump.

ParkheadParadise · 19/01/2020 15:38

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 5mths with dd2.
Everyone's different, Don't worry.

starlightmagic · 19/01/2020 15:48

I finish work in 4 weeks and and customers still haven’t realised I’m pregnant 😂

Mumbassa · 19/01/2020 15:50

I barely showed with mine, it’s normal. Everyone’s bodies are different

Imonlydoingwhatican · 19/01/2020 15:51

When i had my 1st no one (who didnt already know) could tell i was pregnant till i was 30 odd weeks i remember asking dr when will i het a bump. Needless to say i popped over night and was huge.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 19/01/2020 15:53

I didn't really show until 28 weeks, then I sort of exploded at 35 weeks and then he arrived at 37 weeks, so. I looked pregnant for a really short amount of time... Wasted so much money on maternity leggings that never fitted 😂.

It's totally normal to not show for ages with your first. It's also a sign of good stomach muscles apparently!
Hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

kitk · 19/01/2020 15:55

Tbh OP I just looked like I'd eaten too many pies right up to full term!

Whiskeylover45 · 19/01/2020 15:58

Ah totally normal. I didnt look pregnant with DS till I was 8-9 months along. Prior to that I just looked a bit fat 😂

daydreamdaisy · 19/01/2020 15:59

I was worrying about this too - I am 20 weeks and just look like I've got a bit fat! Can't wear my normal trousers but it does not look like a bump, just like a tiny bit of bloat/fat. I think it's normal, I'm 5ft7 with a long torso and hourglass figure!

IdblowJonSnow · 19/01/2020 16:06

Your scan will tell you everything you need to know, sure it will be fine. Sounds like lots of people who've experienced this are fairly tall. I'm a short arse and emphatically did not experience this with my mr greedy bump!

SnoozyLou · 19/01/2020 17:26

In my first pregnancy, it was around that point that a concerned colleague started dropping hints about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, going to the gym, and telling me, in great depth, the benefits of jogging. I suppose I should have been offended, but I had to try not to laugh.

mrscatmad31 · 19/01/2020 17:34

I have had these comments during both pregnancies, I'm currently nearly 40 weeks and finally look pregnant! In my first pregnancy I had a midwife ask me at 9 months if I was pregnant :-/ both pregnancies completely healthy!

Seren1979 · 19/01/2020 17:37

I could have written this myself! I am 30 weeks now ond only just starting to show somekind of baby belly.
I still wear all of my normal clothes except i have bought one maternity jeans as my normal jeans do close, just i cant breathe in them!
My madam is tiny and im closely monitored so i kinda guess this is the reason im not showing really.

happyendings1 · 19/01/2020 18:24

I didn't show with DC1 until 24/26 weeks. Even, then people just thought I'd eaten too much over Christmas. I'm very petite - 5ft 2 and well under 8st. I was hungry, but threw up the whole way through my pregnancy! I put under a stone on. Baby was absolutely fine! Healthy 6lbs!
I had soooooo many comments regarding the size of my bump. I actually had to tell people I was x months gone, if I just said I was pregnant they assumed I was newly pregnant at 6/8 weeks! Although every midwife appointment did result in me having to go for an emergency scan to check baby was ok - which she was!

Lilice · 19/01/2020 19:40

I'm usually around 5 or 6 months when I start showing. Do you have strong abs?
