Morning Sickness

Currently 7+5 with my first and seem to be on a right rollercoaster with the morning/evening/all day sickness. I keep trying to remind myself that sickness is good and is a positive sign but does anyone have any tips on what helped them with their sickness?

Im worried i'm not eating enough (I am taking my Pregnacare vitamins every day) and just don't know what to do with myself!

I've only been sick once but its just that feeling of wanting to be sick that seems to be there most of the time!

Try not taking the pregnacare! It made me feel so sick

SpimblesDimbles · 18/01/2020 19:57

@umberta - oh really?! i never even thought about this. did you just stick with your folic acid?

Try wilko one brand instead of pregnacare. Pregnancy made me so sick!

Eat little and often and drink as much as you can.

I’ve had terrible sickness and currently 7+4. I thought I was further along than that but had my private scan today . I’ve had sickness since 4 weeks and I 100% feel worse when I take my pregnecare . I have had it bad anyway and on cyclizine and constantly on the verge of wanting to be sick but it definitely worsens with the pregnecare so I’m going to stop taking it and stick to my folic acid off my dr . Totally empathise with you, no amount of ginger is working !!!

Oh and huge congratulations! 👶🏼🌸

I have found Pregnacare make me feel extremely sick if I take them on a empty stomach, so I always now take them with a meal. I’ve been feeling sick most of the day, but find the sickness is worse if I am hungry - therefore I have been constantly eating for the last few weeks! Midwife says for the first 12 weeks to just eat what you can when you can and don’t worry too much about a balanced diet; hopefully after 12 weeks we will be feeing far less sick and can eat sensibly again! Smile

Eating something dry and carby the moment I woke up helped a bit - my husband used to leave a piece of dry toast on my bedside table because he left early in the morning. Keep eating tiny amounts of whatever you can keep down. I bought bags and bags of mini pretzels and grazed on them constantly.

The acupressure bands that you can adjust yourself with Velcro also seemed to make a tiny bit of difference for me too.

Just hang on to the fact that it will probably ease up soon (and if it doesn’t, you’ll end up getting used to it - I had it throughout and threw up the day I went into labour at 40+1, but it somehow got easier to deal with as time went on)

Jj93x · 18/01/2020 20:50

My pregnancy vitamins also kept making me throw up so maybe try a day without and see if that helps.

I had to stop taking them and now take just basic folic acid.

Sadly I haven’t been able to find a total cure for the nausea yet, but eating little and often has really helped! I struggle to eat a big meal but even just snacking on something carb-y like salty crisps or bread or crisps is the only thing that makes me feel semi normal.

I hope it improves for you! Xx

Bezalelle · 18/01/2020 21:37

I'm 7w4 days and feel nauseous all day, getting worse as the day drags on! All I can face is really plain bland food.

Has anyone tried ginger? It's meant to be good for nausea but the thought of it makes me gip...

Cherry85 · 18/01/2020 21:38

As above - pregnacare made me sick. I just took folic acid right before bed so it stayed down and digested in my sleep. Dont take it in the morning or during the day if your being sick throughout as it might not be in you long enough to benefit you.

Also - crackers by the bed before I sat upright. I used Jacobs or ginger nuts.

Cant think go anything else that helped but know friends found ginger tea or ginger and honey in hot water worked.

If you get acid reflux I discovered love hearts work as well as rennies, are way cheaper and contain less sugar (worrying) and are delicious :p

Good luck.

I would also add I didnt get the tablets cos decided I was going to be a warrior and do it the hard way 🙈 got noro at 38wks and was given the tablets and they were awesome. Dont be a warrior - go get the tablets if you need them.... it's the one thing I would go back and change

fioney25 · 18/01/2020 21:43

I am in exactly the same boat 😕 I'm 7+1 and felt so nauseous for the last 2 weeks and completely lost my appetite and can't stand the smell of food. The only thing I can eat is bread and galaxy chocolate - not the best diet!! Got an appt with doctor on Tues so hopefully they can help. I'm feeling so fed up but trying to stay positive as it's a good sign I suppose xx

super sorry for my lack of replies to you all, im useless! Blush. i have stopped taking the pregnacare and instead have just kept to my folic acid. still feeling sick, but i don't feel as much. i am SO super worried though that i'm not eating enough of the right things, i mean i dont like veggies at the best of times (which is less than ideal) but just super concerned im not giving our little pea all they need.

@whatelsecouldibecalled - i may try the wilko versions and see how i get on with those! thank you for the tip.

@itsemily - hey we're pretty close together then i believe? maybe a day apart? im 8 and 5 today according to my private scan which we had on the 15th! how are you getting on with your sickness? huge congratulations to yourself also - is this your 1st?

@mable88 - i always tried to take mine after i had my main meal, which wasnt too far before i went to bed. but yes, trying to eat more often is also something im trying because like you, i felt the sicky feeling worsened if i was hungry. i just crave anything carby - which is generally on the plain side, which helps!

@afternoontwee - i want to get some of the bands, but trouble is work at the moment as they dont know. i dont think they would go un-noticed but as soon as they know, im going to get some and wear them with pride! like you say though, hoping it will keep on easing up and get to a point where i dont notice it!

@Jj93x - im the same, crackers, bread, biscuits. these all seem to help! im going to have gained 17stone by time baby is here, haha.

@Bezalelle - im enjoying a lot of ginger ale, ginger biscuits and fresh ginger in hot water. not sure if its mind over matter or not though! however if the thought of ginger makes you queesy... may be best to avoid!!

@Cherry85 - been taking my meds at night! :). definitely worth doing in case you are sick and they end up out of your system. also loving jacobs crackers currently, they help a lot! may just stock up on the love hearts just in case! hahah.

@fioney25 - how did you get on with the doctors? did they say anything to help? hope youre starting to feel better. 100% sickness is a good sign!
