NE central London- which maternity?

I know there are a few threads already on the topic. I'm based in Highbury and trying to choose an hospital to give birth this summer and so far I'm between UCLH and Guy&St Thomas. I haven't visited Whittington yet.

I don't know how to decide which one to go. I am aiming for a natural birth if I can. Then the birth centre would be quite important. I love the view at St Thomas, I know it's very silly. I also heard very good thing about UCLH. I wouldn't mind going private but would rather stick with NHS.

Any stories/ advices on how you've decided where in London to give birth?

I chose UCLH in 2016 - they were fantastic and am going back again this year.

The kicker for me in deciding was that the birth centre (midwife led) was only one floor below the ‘go zone’ so if anything had gone wrong I knew I wasn’t far away from a top surgical team.

They do a tour of the facilities I believe - you can email them. Good luck!

I have also been wondering this, I live south of the river and am right between KCLH and St Thomas'. My OH loves the view from St Thomas' (even if it is also overlooking our workplace Hmm) but we haven't been to see their maternity ward, just their EPU (I'm early on) which I don't really like.

I’ve had all my DC’s at the Whittington. I think it’s great there! Birth centre is only one floor down from labour ward should you need transferring. Birth centre rooms are pretty modern & the midwives down there have a very natural approach to birth. They’re in the final stages of redoing the postnatal ward too, which is meant to be really nice should you end up needing to stay there. My pregnancies have all been quite complicated and they’ve always looked after us so well so I would definitely recommend.

Thanks for your recommendations. I will definitely book a tour at Whittington and UcLH.

I'm booked in at St Thomas's and am loving it so far. All the staff have been great and I feel they have been really thorough.

I also find it very handy as it is near my work which has made fitting in all the appointments much simpler.

Im at St Thomas’. I originally booked Kings, had my first appt and had such a terrible experience I couldn’t go back. St Thomas’ has been really good for me personally. They have been extremely thorough and couldn’t have provided better care.
