I found out at 16 wks I'm having a baby boy💙 however I went for my 20 week scan today and I was told that it's not 100% clear and when I said I had already been told boy, the man scanning me said he was not leaning towards boy.. I'm so shocked!! Got so used to thinking I'm having a baby boy, can anyone compare or see something I'm not seeing In potty shot? Thanks!!

I would think girl from that view. But maybe theres different angles or maybe sometimes fluid make things look different? I would definitely book a private scan to be sure.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/01/2020 22:57

I would definitely book a private scan to be sure

Or you could just wait til delivery. It'll be one of the two.

Emmalowri · 15/01/2020 22:59

Hey! I’m currently 35 weeks and having a baby boy. Your scan looks a tad different to mine. Yours seems to have a mound where mine had a mound with a little fleshy willy type sticky out bit. Maybe pay for a private scan at a different clinic? See what it says? If not your midwife would be able to tell in a blood test. You start producing enough hormone to know if your having a boy by about 9 weeks. Testosterone in your blood tests and it’s a boy.

cousinboneless · 15/01/2020 23:00

Girls have three definite lines. I'd say boy for sure, looking at that scan picture.

KaptenKrusty · 15/01/2020 23:02

Instead of paying for a private scan you could just wait until the baby is born - you’ll know for sure then

AmyMaria2 · 15/01/2020 23:03

Thanks ladies, sorry not sure if I was clear I had a private scan that said boy and this potty shot is from 20 week scan today. He said he wouldn't say boy from this but can't be 100% sure, I've got so used to him being a boy! X

If a professional controlling the angles etc at the scan, viewing moving pictures couldn't tell, amateurs on MN won't be able to from a picture.

Chocol4te · 15/01/2020 23:07

This is how my scan from 16 weeks looks like and it's a girl, we've been told a girl has 3 lines, I don't see those in your scan so I'd say boy

It could still be a boy but was perhaps nothing was ‘visible’ at this latest scan? You say the tech said he was ‘not leaning towards boy’ rather than saying it definitely looked like a girl which suggests it was more unclear than certain? If they were very confident at the 16 week scan then I’d say it’s more likely it just wasn’t as clear this time.

Saying that, I don’t know how accurate 16 week scans are for seeing sex?

Normandy144 · 15/01/2020 23:18

Well enjoy the surprise when baby gets here. It certainly adds a bit more drama than usual! Will it be the boy you thought all along or a girl?

AmyMaria2 · 15/01/2020 23:20

This was my 16wk potty shot when I was told boy..

If a professional said they weren’t sure nobody on here is going to be able to!

Graciebutterfly · 15/01/2020 23:23

Women at work got told she was having a boy, they already have a girl but at the 20 week she was told different another girl.

I don't think people should be told before the 20 week, because still it can be wrong.

My own mum was told I was a boy, then I popped out and she thought they give her a test baby and was waiting for her ds. Lol she had just had a c section 30 plus years ago

June705 · 15/01/2020 23:29

Does it really matter?

Jaguarana · 15/01/2020 23:31

'Potty shot'? Confused What a revolting expression.

Catlover10 · 15/01/2020 23:37

Here is my 16 week boy scan if it helps you- penis and balls are very obvious lol. You’re is a bit more unclear but he/she probably wasn’t in the very position on the day! If it were me and I was really keen to know, I would probably book another private scan at a different place to double check!

MadameJosephine · 15/01/2020 23:52

If you give the private clinic a call and tell them your 20 week scan didn’t agree that it was a boy sometimes they will offer you another scan to recheck

BlueEyedFloozy · 16/01/2020 00:05

You can never be 100% sure until the baby is born - either way, I'm sure you won't care what sex he/she is when you see him/her and you'll get used to them soon enough.

I have one of each and it really hadn't made any difference to how I've parented :)

Also @Jaguarana - i agree. It's an awful, bizarre term!

YappityYapYap · 16/01/2020 00:13

Not keen on the term potty shot but I'm sure you never invented it so I won't say much about that!

To be honest, at your gender scan, the sonographer would have been looking for the sex of the baby and that's all they were doing. At your 20 week scan, they weren't checking for the sex, they were checking for abnormalities so the focus wasn't really on that area. I would assume the gender scan was right but maybe book another if you really want to know? I had a gender scan. Some people don't agree with them but who cares? It's not their body, their baby or their life 😁
