Detecting twins with Transvaginal or abdominal ultrasound?

I have read so many stories of people finding out about twins much later in their pregnancy that it keeps my hopes high (which I know, I shouldn't). I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first child (hopefully children). I've had 2 ultrasound sessions, both were abdominal and the sonographer saw one baby each time. Most doctors say that it is impossible to miss a twin by 12th week. If there are 2 then they will show. But I'm still hoping for 2 . I'm kind of sure about it because I was on fertility drugs the month I conceived. Do you think a transvaginal ultrasound gives a detailed view and detect another possible fetus? I really want to put my mind at ease.
I know I shouldn't be thinking too much and please dont get me wrong because I am more than happy to have one healthy baby but I'm just curious.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry but they would have seen 2 babies by now.

I had an abdominal scan at 7 weeks and we could clearly see the 2 babies and heartbeats.

At 12 weeks it was very obvious from the ultrasound that I was carrying twins, the sonoggrapher spotted them immediately.

My twins were picked up at 7 weeks, and there was very clearly two babies at my 12 week scan also.

Yes, they would have detected if there were two at this stage. Fertility drugs aren't any guarantee of multiples.

I was taking clomid with my first child. One heartbeat detected at 7 weeks. I think it's highly unlikely you're hiding another baby and should feel blessed your medication has been successful.

You're not having twins, love.

No way they could miss a twin at 12 weeks! Your womb isn’t that big, there is nowhere for one to hide by the time they are 12 week size!

When I had my 12 week scan the sonographer said "and now I'm going to just check there's just the one". I think that's quite helpful. They're checking so many things, and most of them I probably wouldn't want want to know about, but knowing they've specifically checked for a twin removes all doubt.
