39 weeks tomorrow and have come down with a stinker of a cold!! Realistically I know I just need to rest and drink plenty of fluids but any miracle cures welcome, I can’t go into labour feeling like this Sad

Homemade chicken soup with fresh chillies, ginger and garlic. Warming, comforting and full of the good stuff to fight the cold.
Normal base of onion, celery and carrots, get. Make it the consistency you like (whack some potato in there to thicken it rather than cream).
I've gotten over many a cold with this.

Try that nose spray stuff? Berocca?

EgremontRusset · 14/01/2020 08:36

I had a stinking cold and it disappeared during labour byw!

Oh @3rdchristmaslucky that is such a good shout!
That is interesting @Egremont, I wonder if there is a reason for it. First baby so will most likely be late anyway!

I was convinced I was on deaths door with a cold a few weeks ago, I was 37 weeks, I was at the hospital for a scan and to see my consultant and I mentioned it to him in passing and he said we can actually take the over the counter cold and flu medication, providing it's not inruprofen. It might be worth trying to see your GP and asking them, if you don't have any risks or allergies you'd probably be fine but defo get a medical professional to tell you first! I started to feel better instantly, don't know if it was a placebo effect but honestly I didn't care! It took about 5 days for me to feel almost good as new but I reckon if I'd just been soldiering on with honey & lemon I would never have felt better!

Try menthol droplets to chew on, lemon and honey tea( I find that if you make it yourself it's better), warm shower and let it steam.

You should improve within a couple of days and I expect within few days you'll be all right again.

As you said, rest, rest and rest.

Orange squash, teaspoon of honey, good slice of lemon, a soluble paracetamol with hot water. I swear by it when I’ve got a horrible cold. If you take out the paracetamol you can drink as much as you like, it’s nice with any flavour squash (but best with orange or ribena).

I had a cold just before & during 4 of my 5 dc were born, like Egremont (fab name by the way, def the best Apple variety) they just went during the labour.

I’m in the exact same boat - 39 weeks tomorrow as well and felt it taking over last night! I’ve been busy the last few days so going to try to take it easy and rest up. Hope you feel better!
