I'll start this by saying I know it's going to be different for everyone depending on the type of birth they had but assuming all was well with the baby how long were you kept in for before you were allowed home?

Was chatting to my mum last night and it came up that most people I know have stayed at least overnight whereas in her day if people had their baby in the early hours they'd be out same day.

12 hours (late evening birth)

ChanklyBore · 13/01/2020 17:04

No time at all. I was very lucky in that the first time my first born went to a hospital was age 8 for an x-ray.

PrayingandHoping · 13/01/2020 17:05

A week. Took 3 days for her to arrive (eventually by emergency c section) and then were in for a further 4 days

MaxPaddyandHarry · 13/01/2020 17:06

First baby ten long days (that's what all new first time mothers did at the time).
Second 48 hours.
Third 24 hours. I had an epidural for a footling breech birth and they wouldn't let me go home sooner.

About eight hours. That was thirty years ago, and in those days they offered you a five day stay for first babies if you wanted it- but I couldn’t stand the food and wanted to get home as fast as possible!

Baby born at 11.50pm and I obviously stayed in that night and one more. I had a retained placenta. Luckily I had a private room and my husband stayed the whole time.

Ds born afternoon, forceps and spinal - in over night..
dd born in the AM straight forward birth, after complications resulting in spinal and surgery- in over night

Mrshue · 13/01/2020 17:15

@OrangeHue. Sadly yes. I had a rare life threatening event happen. Caused by pregnancy.

adviceneededon · 13/01/2020 17:19

3 nights. I had been given pethidine and this caused baby not to feed. I wasn't allowed to go home until they saw her take a full bottle.

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 13/01/2020 17:21

First DC born at 11am and out by 5pm.

Second DC born at 2am and home at 3pm as I had to go to theatre after the delivery so we had to stay longer.

BrigidSt · 13/01/2020 17:23

Three months.

HolaWeenie · 13/01/2020 17:25

17hrs, fairly uncomplicated vaginal delivery.

Arrived at 9pm, seen at 11pm
Baby born at 3am
Settled on ward at 7am
Discharged at 2pm

Should have been sooner, printer was broken so couldn't get discharge papers, DH is an IT geek so he fixed the printer for them them.

turnthebiglightoff · 13/01/2020 17:26

6 days / 5 nights. 50 hour labour, PPH, forceps and kidney failure.

Sagradafamiliar · 13/01/2020 17:34

Opposite way round for me. Mum stayed in for about a week as back in those days you'd recover properly and the baby would sleep in a nursery.
For my first I stayed in overnight until discharged. Subsequent births, I was discharged straight from the labour unit within an hour of giving birth.

SnoozyLou · 13/01/2020 17:36

1 night for a c section. They were very nice and all but I'd have come straight home if I could! I love my bed Smile

Engard · 13/01/2020 17:37

I was induced and wasn't allowed to leave after so in there for a while whilst things got going but from arrival to leaving was about 29 hours. Had I'd been able to arrive after labour was established then it'd only have been in for 18 hours

Bol87 · 13/01/2020 18:18

After labour 2.5 days.. DD was a terrible feeder & had jaundice. So we had to stay until things improved! I didn’t mind to be honest, I felt quite overwhelmed by it all & in a lot of pain. I was glad to be around support & strong painkillers!

My mum was in 7 days with me, she says that was the norm back in the 80’s!

Essexgirlupnorth · 13/01/2020 18:24

Born 6am discharged 8pm same day straightforward birth on midwife led unit at 40+2.
Had to wait for baby to be blood grouped and for me to have my anti-d I injection as I am rhesus negative.
Did struggle with breastfeeding and do wonder if staying in for one night would have helped with it.

HelloDulling · 13/01/2020 18:27

5 days (this was 13 yrs ago)

My mum was in for 2 weeks, which was standard at the time.

chickedeee · 13/01/2020 18:27

Zero hours
She was born at home Wink
Arrived at 1.50am and went to sleep in my own bed Grin

kitk · 13/01/2020 18:28

Went in Thursday lunchtime, had DD at midnight and was discharged Sunday night. My blood pressure was high but being in hospital wasn't helping that!

parkersnose · 13/01/2020 18:29

2 nights. I though it used to be longer.

Nitw1t · 13/01/2020 18:30

4 hours total.

3 hours after delivery.

MLU in a hospital

Jodie567 · 13/01/2020 18:30

Just over 24 hours. No complications with my but baby had a low temp so waited for her to hold a good temp before we could go.

Due my second and hoping for much the same this time 😊
