Kidney contractions?

Hello all.

I'm 19+3 FTM. Over the last few weeks I've been having unbearable pain around what I believe to be my right kidney (right flank area in the lower back). Mainly during the night, when I've woken up in excruciating pain.

I've seen my GP who tested my urine and said I do not have a UTI or kidney stones. She said the pain is just down to my posture and put it down to muscle spasms. She suggested I just practised stretches and used a hot/cold compress.

Since then it's really gotten worse, as it's now also during the day at random times - always the same area! Just earlier it felt like my right kidney is literally being compressed really tight - the pain reduced me to tears! I'm unsure whether this is just down to simple muscle ache/poor posture but couldn't find anything online which doesn't point to a UTI!

Has anyone experienced this before?

I've had this a few times during this pregnancy it would just randomly come on I could just be sitting down not moving and then it would start hurting I have no clue what it was but it comes and goes. Same as you no uti but everything does get compressed the future you get etc so I think that's probally what it is. Have you tired taking paracetamol see if that helps?

@Boymummy3 thanks for replying. Yes paracetamol takes the edge off. Also been glued to the hot water bottle all day as today the pain has been pretty much constant since it first hit.

Perhaps it is just the stretching going on! Worried as it just feels super localised in one area only.

Yeah I'd mention it to your midwife just to be on the safe side they may want to repeat tests

Not all UTIs show up when tested. I had hydroenphrosis (swelling of the kidneys) during pregnancy and multiple UTIs but the gp kept brushing me off as tests kept coming back clear. It's only when I handed over my wee sample that looked like a cup of milky tea that she finally believed me. Every time I stopped antibiotics I'd get a new UTI so I was on antibiotics permanently for the last 2 1/2 months of my pregnancy. That was sorted through the hospital, not my gp. And I do have kidney issue history (3 past surgeries).

I'm not saying you've got the same, it may be the baby is just in a really organ crushing position at the moment! Maybe just go back and ask again.

@seven201 ah, sorry you went through that! I think I will make another appointment to be checked if this pain persists. Organ crushing position also possible! Man, it hurts. Lol

Just an update for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. Went back to the GP (thanks @seven201 for inspiring me to!) to a differnt doctor and they did indeed find a UTI and have prescribed me anti-biotics and booking me in for an ultrasound to check the area. So it's definitely worth persisting if you feel fobbed off!
