Weight Gain at 33 weeks

Hi everyone

I am hoping that some of you lovely ladies can give me some perspective!

I have gained around 25 pounds at 33 weeks pregnant and am feeling bad about it. I’ve always struggled with my weight and my pre-pregnancy BMI was 33 and I am 5’10

No medical professionals have any concerns and baby is measuring within normal range, so it’s just my own worries!

Please could some of you share your weight gain around this time?

Also, did anyone have extra scans due to a BMI of over 30?

Thank you 👍

Im 30 weeks, and just starting to notice the weight coming on fast. I was 70kgs pre-pregnancy, and im now about 85kgs. Urgh.

Thank you for your reply!

My midwife did show me a chart about weight gain when I asked and it said I should only gain 11-20 pounds by the time I give birth. But then she also showed me this about how the weight is broken down....

1.5 pounds: the placenta

7 pounds: maternal stores of fat, protein, and other nutrients

7.5 pounds: your average full-term baby

2 pounds: breast tissue (we know it feels like so much more!)

4 pounds: increased fluid volume

4 pounds: increased blood volume

2 pounds: the uterus

2 pounds: amniotic fluid

Total = 30 pounds

So how the actual fuck does that work?!

This time I havnt weighed myself I lost a bit of weight in early stages of pregnancy and can tell I havnt put alot on since I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and I've just started noticing I'm gaining a bit but glad fully not the amount I did with my 2nd.

That’s interesting that your weight gain was so different in your two pregnancies!

I gained 3 stone with my second son. My first son was two months premmie I think I probably would have gained the same or similar if I went to term with him he was born at 31w 3 day I had gained just over a stone. I was back to pre preggo weight within about 9 months of giving birth.

As far as I know 25 to 35 pounds is normal for the entire pregnancy but then it depends on your weight before. I had put on 22 pounds at my 32 week scan and I’m happy with that. I’m sure I’ll have far more put on now after Christmas but this far on I’m not too bothered. I Definitely wouldn’t be concerned about 25 pounds.

I put on over 40lbs with both of my pregnancies (and lost it all in between! My poor body!) Most of it was in the third trimester too. I was a healthy BMI at the start of both pregnancies, and because I was very slim before hand, I don’t think my midwives really noticed as no one ever mentioned it to me during either pregnancy.

Honestly stop worrying about it. I didn't weigh myself, I couldn't have cared less. As long as you and baby are healthy and happy then that is all that matters

CupCupGoose · 11/01/2020 22:09

I'm 34 weeks and I've put on just over a stone.

I don't know my weight gain because I don't have a scales! Im 33 weeks, must have put on quite a bit but I'm just focusing on eating the best I can (which is not perfectly) and trying to walk when I can for exercise. Even if I did weigh myself, I don't quite know how much is baby/blood/placenta/amiotic fluid etc. Try not to worry about it, you won't be the first or last person to gain weight in pregnancy.

I was 12'3 and am now 14'8, not ideal but equally not something I'm going to start worrying about at 33 weeks. My blood pressure is good (110-120/60-70) and I'm still horse riding, going to the gym once and week and out walking the dog short distances during the week and longer distances at the weekend (if somewhat slower than before Wink ).
