Hi All,

Hoping for opinions...

I have been offered a promotion to cover a senior colleague that is going on maternity leave starting in April. Despite being Mat leave cover it is a permanent position but I have also just found out I am almost 5 weeks pregnant.

Would it be bad to accept knowing that if all goes well for me (fingers crossed!!!) I will be going on mat leave myself 4 months after starting the role?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Absolutely not! Accept the promotion, you have earned it!

Congratulations on both pregnancy and promotion 😊

It could be perfect! She'll be coming back around the time you go off. Meant to be. Congratulations on your promotion.

I've just noted your comment about 4 months. Silly me but definitely still accept!

toomuchteaandcake · 11/01/2020 17:14

Nope!

Thanks all, was just concerned about taking it knowing I will be going off when there are similarly deserving people who could take it instead and be able to be there the whole time!

I'm sure you've worked hard for this opportunity. Don't let timing stop you from getting what you deserve. Xx

I gained a promotion on the Monday and found out I was pregnant on the Friday! It’s a secondment for only three months but hopefully will get extended. I’ve been trying for a year and have had an EMC. When I told my line manager she was over the moon for me. You deserve that promotion so well done you. Don’t feel guilty. Feel proud and embrace it.

Definitely accept it! And congratulations 🥳

I think employment law is that you have to tell your employer when you are 20 weeks pregnant. I'd accept and wait until 20 weeks to tell them.

Welldone!

Go for it!! Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t be awesome at a new job too!! Congratulations on both counts x

Congratulations!! If you were to accept the promotion, and the senior colleague comes back after maternity cover, what would happen to your role? Would there essentially be 2 senior positions opened? (I work in HR so I'm curious ☺️) x

Similar thing happened to me I accepted a promotion and then found out I was pregnant! My company we're really supportive, fortunately! Good luck! Xx
