4th IVF cycle but early scan measuring 6 weeks rather than 8 weeks

I am wondering if anyone has any positive news share. I have recently gone through my 4th IVF cycle and at my 8 week scan ok measured 6 weeks. We had 2 embryos but we only saw one sac on the screen. A really silly question but could the other sac have been missed? Could the 6 week embryo survive? I know I'm clutching at straws. We have a follow up scan in 2 days. Many thanks.

Not ivf but my first scan i measured 4 weeks when i should have been around 6, i then had a scan a week later and baby had a hb measured 5.5-6.5 weeks Smile

Sorry you’re having such a stressful time. Did they see a heartbeat on your scan? If they did, that’s very positive.

We had a 6 week scan (also IVF, so dates were definite), they saw a heartbeat, but it was only measuring 5 weeks. Went back for a follow up scan a few days later (I just couldn’t wait the 10 days I was advised to wait) and the measurements were as they should have been.

I think when you’re talking about something which is absolutely tiny (only a few mm) in size, if the measurement is even a few mm out they’ll give you a date which is totally out from where it should be.

Thanks for your messages. They never said anything about a heartbeat and we left distraught. The sonographer said she didn't want to give us false hope. I've had a couple of days of on and off cramping so expecting the worse I guess.

Hi Lola,

also IVF here. went at what i thought was 6 weeks for an early scan and they dated 5 weeks. i was sooo worried expecting the worst. they asked me to go back 10 days later and little one was in dates and we saw heartbeat. currently nearly 22 weeks preganant and still worried about anything.
