Colouring hair while pregnant

What are everyones views on colouring hair while pregnant? A lot of different opinions online. Is it harmful to the baby? Is there a better time to colour i.e first or second trimester? I wouldn’t normally bother about something so trivial as my looks but my greys are out of hand 🙈

NHS says it's ok. Says you may wish to wait until after 1st trimester but doesnt say you have to. Hair can be unpredictable with how it takes the colour but it's not dangerous

I use casting colours which are only a semi-permanent. I feel its slightly better than permanent colours, but really have no idea. I know health food shops also sell vegan/organic and more natural hair colours. Whether they really are better, again, no idea. Do check though if they contain henna, because you can't colour hair with regular hair colour after henna apparently.

I did mine at 5 weeks. I’d only just found out I was pregnant and my hair was a disaster! I’d already left it way too late, my roots were ridiculous! I rang my hairdresser to discuss. She said obviously a personal choice but in her 15 year career had coloured hundreds of pregnant ladies hair at various points in pregnancy. She also continued to work while pregnant twice herself and obviously came into regular contact with dye.

I felt reassured (plus the NHS say it’s fine). But she also suggested we could use foils to minimise the amount of dye sitting on the scalp directly if I was concerned.. so that’s an option maybe?

It's absolutely fine. Unless you're drinking the dye there is no way it can affect the baby.

Obviously be sensible and make sure you're in a well ventilated area!

The amount of people who tell me I'm endangering my baby's life by colouring my hair is ridiculous, just an old wives tale!

I personally try to limit it, but did it once. I plan to do it again towards due date. Need to cover a bit my white hair( have a few just near my forehead). I do buy thou hair dye without ammonia, and try to stay in a well aired room as wait for it to take effect, so you don't have to breath all the chemicals.
