Hi, I take citirizine hydrochloride regularly before pregnancy but I take the syrup I asked my midwife if its okay she said yes but I have been reading online apparently it's not good I am really scared now because I take it everyday but only around 2-5mg because I take a small spoonful and I am 10 weeks had a scan 2 days ago and everything seemed okay

I also take it regularly and took it throughout both my pregnancies. I paid to see a specialist before becoming pregnant with my first, in essence he said that there is a very tiny risk as there is with absolutely every medication. Obviously no medical trials can be done on pregnant women to prove that it is safe but there are no recorded cases of adverse effects.

Loradatine is apparently slightly safer but that has no effect on me, so I stuck with cetirizine. Ask your midwife to refer you to a consultant to discuss it if you are worried.

Cetirizine is basically fine during pregnancy. I took it throughout my previous pregnancy and will continue to take it through this one, unless any data comes out which shows otherwise. A specialist pharmacist reviewed my medication in my last pregnancy and that one was fine.
