Hey people,

Me and my wife went for an early scan today 7+3 and the sac was empty. I'm not sure what we should do. Has anyone else been in this scenario?

Hi

I’m so sorry to hear you are in this position. Same happened to me just before Christmas - also at 7 weeks.

Was it a private scan? If so you will need to get seen by your local EPU team.

It might differ depending on hospital but I had to wait 7 day to be rescanned - to make sure there was no error with dates. They will then talk though options with you both - natural, medical or surgical management.

My first miscarriage I opted for surgical management and this time natural. Both times I went away and had a think about it for a few days.

Hope this is useful - I also found Miscarriage Association and Tommy’s websites useful.

If dates are exact, then the pregnancy isn’t viable I’m afraid. Is there any possibility that your wife could be earlier in her pregnancy than you both thought?

I'm sorry to hear you've gone through this as well, Peach. It was a private scan and we have one on the NHS tomorrow.

I'd like to think we're accurate with the dates, Twinkle, but I'm hoping we're not now.

I’m sorry to hear this. Hopefully your dates are out and it was just too early. Best of luck xx

I went through this in November. The waiting week is the worst. Sadly for me it wasn't good news but if dates are wrong then there could be progress on next scan. Best of luck to you both

Look up blighted ovum.
It’s a miscarriage and not a pleasant one.
I’ve had several of these.
Good luck I hope it’s not this but sounds likely.

@Maxwell20 what was the outcome? Going through something similar
