Weight gain - does this sound normal?

I had a BMI of 22 before my BFP. In the first trimester I lost half a stone, I think due to eating less as I was feeling sick. However, in the second trimester I regained the half a stone and put on another half, meaning I’m now 7lb more than my pre-pregnancy weight and 14lb more than my first trimester weight. Does that sound a lot or is it normal? I’m 24+0!

I just found this on the Tommy’s website: “Women in the normal weight range (BMI of 18.5-24.9) are recommended to put on between 25-35lbs (11-16kg)”.

But should I be counting my weight gain from my first trimester weight or my pre-pregnancy weight?

I'd take it from what you weighed originally, not what from the amount you lost in the first trimester. It's not completely uncommon to lose a bit of weight in the first trimester from feeling like crap and to quickly put it back on once you start feeling a bit less crap again.

Thanks - in that case I’ve only put on half a stone! Should I have gained more by this stage?

Not necessarily. Im assuming you've had midwife appointments and scans and they're all ok? If so, then i'd say you not got much to worry about, perhaps bring it up at your next midwife appt if your concerned.

I was around 70kgs when I got pregnant. Im now 30 weeks and am about 84kgs. The weight seems to be going on faster now.

I gained about 40lbs in my first pregnancy.
I'm almost 38 weeks now and have only gained 14lbs 🤷🏻‍♀️ neither time have I been told it's too much or too little.
I feel that as long as you're satisfyingly yourself and eating well, it doesn't matter what you gain or don't gain.

It sounds fine. All three pregnancies I’ve gained around 30lb (starting BMI around 21), and it’s come off fairly easy with the first two (a few weeks to go until DC3 is due!)

Great, thanks everyone. I’m eating normally (if a little too much!) now so will probably gain more over the coming weeks.
