Got my BFP! Early days. Need to lose some weight

Hey everyone!

After a MMC in October last year, and trying for a baby after, I got a BFP yesterday......so excited!!! It was an early tests so I'm only 3 weeks.

This isn't my first pregnancy, I have a large brood, but is my first baby (second pregnancy) with my partner.

When I fell pregnant last year, I was following a keto diet, which I stopped straight away. Since then, and with the help of christmas, I've put on a stone!

I've been trying to lose it, while staying healthy, but not doing strenuous exercise (I'm not risking this pregnancy), but it is a struggle. Any tips?

I am 5 foot 8, and 12 st 12. Xxx

Don't try and lose weight while pregnant. Just eat a healthy, varied diet.

You may not lose but you may be able to stay the same weight for as long as possible. I would suggest logging food in my fitness pal. Maybe take up some gentle walking, even 30 /45 mins a day will help.

I ate like a pig in my first two pregnancies and Gained loads, justified it by saying 'eating for two' but actually it just ended up take forever to get it off. This time I'm trying to be more mindful of what I eat. I'm just 5 weeks so eating and exercising as normal.

What do you eat in a typical day?

This is great advice from you both, thank you.

Well I've been having gluten free porridge with almond milk for breakfast, soup for lunch, then normal dinner, but smaller portions, plenty of veg etc.

I've started walking each day too, though only round the block. Also walk between schools on school pick ups.

You shouldn't try to lose weight while pregnant, you'll put yourself and your body through more stress than it's worth. Just eat as healthy as you can and exercise regularly, if you're not used to working out do not start pushing yourself. Be careful and look after yourself

Don't try to lose weight while pregnant. You can do that afterwards. Try to eat healthy and do some moderate activity, like walking.

I see a few posts like this with people who want to lose weight while pregnant. You need good nutrients for your baby to grow well and healthy. Pregnancy is not a time to diet.

Your midwife can refer you to the dieticians who work with pregnant, to help you understand what a gel diet in pregnancy might look like.

@debbs I am very similar to you. I had a miscarriage in October and now trying again (I'm not pregnant yet but hopefully soon - congratulations by the way!). I already have children but this would be my first with my partner. Fingers crossed I won't be far behind you . Totally agree, don't try and lose weight just a balanced diet, loads of water and maybe replaced processed food for homemade sometimes. Good luck!

Thank you ladies. I needed to hear that! Will follow your advice.

@LittleBrownBaby wow so similar! Keeping everything crossed for you xxx

You don't need to lose weight.

ChipsAreLife · 10/01/2020 17:45

Your diet sounds really good! I really wouldn't stress too much. Just build up the walking and maybe look at swimming.

It's so hard but it's not the time to lose weight but just be as healthy as possible!

I've just eaten some buttons so I'm a fine one to talk ... but have been very healthy bar that and done an hours exercise. It's all about balance I think!

debbs77 · 10/01/2020 18:03

Thank you!

Will definitely do more walking......I have all my best business ideas when walking!

Op I'm 12 weeks and the same height as you. I'm currently 12 stone 5. I too was following a keto diet (and had lost 4 stone since last year - put about 7lbs back on unfortunately). This is my 5th baby and I desperately want to keep my weight gain down as much as I can healthily.

I'm not eating healthily at the moment. A good keto diet has so many more nutrients than the endless marmite on toast I'm eating at the moment (it's all I can eat without feeling sick). I was also doing IF and I suspect that is a no no.

Anyhow if you want a buddy to find a way to eat well in this pregnancy I'm happy to be it!
