How common is bleeding at 5-6 weeks?

I'm roughly 5-6 weeks pregnant and have slight brown spotting when wiping and cramping.
Is this normal? It's too early for anyone to check apparently - but I'm so confused and would appreciate any help

Hey, I had awful cramps and pink spotting at 5 weeks, I knew it wasn't implantation bleeding and I feared the worst but all was fine and I'm now 16 weeks! Sometimes there is no explanation for bleeding, I would just monitor it and if it gets heavier and painful I would call your doctor, but fingers crossed all is fine ☺️ xx

It is common in my experience. Happened with both healthy pregnancies. I also had an ectopic, but the bleeding was different: black, heavier, painful. A little spotting is quite normal and I think can be a sign of the pregnancy getting embedded nicely. Try not to panic.

Its quite common. If its gets really really heavy and painful have it checked out

gonewiththesnow · 09/01/2020 20:40

So even if it's sore it could all still be okay? I wouldn't say it's cramp pain but kind of stomach ache ish. I don't know how to describe it but I'm just panicking. It's very light spotting too so fingers crossed, I just have a bad feeling that I could be in for more bad luck.

I had the same and again everything was absolutely fine. It did freak me out lots as it started week after IB and lasted 3 weeks. Midwife said it’s the body’s way of getting rid of old blood, cleaning you out so to speak ready for a healthy pregnancy.
Just to add it was not bright red, heavy or painful - just brownish, clumpy sometimes (tmi sorry!), watery sometimes and very very annoying. I was concerned I was miscarrying or it was ectopic, but healthy pregnancy! So try not to panic xx

I had light bleeding at 5/6 weeks and they scanned me at 6 weeks to check everything was ok. It was and now I'm 22 weeks. Try and get a scan for the next week or so. Hope everything is ok x

Mollie3 · 09/01/2020 20:44

Yes there’s a good chance it will all be ok! Cramps, aches and pains are all part of pregnancy as long as they are not constant or severe.

Mollie3 · 09/01/2020 20:45

@Hereforpizza agree a scan can be great for putting your mind at rest. Somehow I held out to 10.5 weeks and by then bleeding has stopped and say my healthy bubba on the screen

gonewiththesnow · 09/01/2020 20:46

Okay phew you've all reassured me a bit!

It's not heavy or bright red blood, tmi but just a bit brown and watery.

It's so great to be able to ask these things when I feel so so lost at the minute, so thank you all so much for that

I was told brown is old blood. If it’s dark/bright red, accompanied by clots and/or severe cramping pain, then be concerned.

@gonewiththesnow i had this type of spotting starting from 5 weeks and still went to EPU and got scanned.
Mine sadly ended in MC at 6w4
But i also saw few women with bleeding who had healthy pregnancies

Good luck

I'm currently almost 9 weeks pregnant and I have a proper bleed bright red blood that just dropped one evening but was painless and lasted about half an hour and then about a week ago after I was referred to the EPAU they scanned and said there was blood around the sac and I've since had lots of brown spotting but all is still okay. I've panicked too and had pains that are a horrible dull ache but it's just the body stretching. Try not to worry x

@gonewiththesnow let us know how you get on.

I’m in similar position but mine was like a normal flow. Lasted 6 days and now 3 days of spotting brown. EPU keep doing bloods every 48 hours and my HCG is going up nicely a little more than double. I have my scan next Tuesday to see if it’s a viable pregnancy. This wait feels worse than the 2WW.

Have you spoken to your nearest EPU? Xx
