Trouble sleeping

Hello all,

I am 20+6 weeks pregnant and I normally sleep on my tummy but this has now become way too uncomfortable.

I bought a large all body pillow but I struggle to sleep on my side either with or without the pillow. I've been trying for the last few weeks but I just cant do side sleeping and I'm trying a weird recovery type pose but this is now uncomfortable too.

Anyone found any good hacks or can tell me that it does get better. I read that after a few weeks you just get used to sleeping on your side and I'm praying this is true!

🤷🏻‍♀️ if you figure it out let me know. I use the old recovery position with my top knee balancing on a thick pillow but I still have to walk around atleast once a night to reduce the hip pain!
I'm sure my first wasn't as bad as this, I had a mattress topper with bumps in it and slept on that. It must have worked.

Oh you don't get used to it. Trust me. I'm 37 weeks and haven't slept in 4 months 👍

Thanks for the reassurance! Grin

This is my first and everyone keeps telling me to get loads of lie-ins before baby arrives. I wish I could!

You don't get used to it, but it does get easier to sleep through the discomfort if that makes sense?
I used dh as a prop and rested my legs on his which helped.

I'm 32 weeks and bought a big pregnancy pillow early on which I ditched pretty quickly.

One cushion between my knees, a small pillow under my belly and a cushion for my top arm to hug did the trick for me.

I mainly use the pregnancy pillow to prop my legs up on when I'm sitting up in bed, so that was £130 well spent 😂

Having said that, I'm now having to sleep sitting up as my hip pain is so bad that it makes side sleeping impossible regardless of cushion arrangement....

It WILL get better OP, but if you're anything like me it'll get worse again for a bit...👍🏼

Looking forward to baby being here so I manage to get some sleep 😂

I agree with @ParksAndRecreation . I bought a BBHugme pillow early on. It was good at first but useless now at 34 weeks.
I recently bought a “wedge of cheese” type pillow for about £15 that I wedge under my bump, then put a cushion between my legs. I still don’t get a great nights sleep (what with the heartburn as well) but it’s manageable.

Personally I found it did get easier from about 20 - 30 weeks, in that I just got more used to sleeping on my side. But I'm nearly 33 weeks now and it seems to have become more uncomfortable again! No tips except try different cushions, pillows, positions etc to try and work out what is best.

I'm currently 10 weeks and only getting 4 hours a night. Please let me know if you find a solution

I'm yet to find anything that helps with sleep. Most of the pregnancy it was needing to wee every 1-1.5 hours stopping sleep and then the hip, leg and back pain took over. I've tried endless amounts of pillows and positions but just cant get comfortable. My DP said hes been sleeping downstairs because our dog hasn't been himself but I'm quite sure it's because he feels the whale (me) next to him keep moving about all night! Sitting up has become the only position to get a couple of hours a night.
