Maternity pay

Hi ladies

Just wondered if anyone could help me who's had similar experience

I could easily ring payroll myself but I've had so many issues with them the past few weeks I dont even want to speak to them about anything else!

So we get paid what we work from the 1st of the month to the last working day

So what I work from December the 1st to December the 31st will be paid on January the 10th

I started maternity leave on december 31st and I've recieved a weeks maternity pay already and I'm unsure as to why

Does this mean I'll only get 3 weeks next month? Or does it mean my maternity leave will finish a month earlier?

I realise I can ring payroll but you get told 10 different things by 10 different people you never know what's true and what's not! Has this happened to anyone else

Are you getting Maternity Allowance from the government or SMP from your employer?

I get 90% of my wages for the first 6 weeks and then its smp so at the minute it's the 90% of my wages

Hi sorry if I'm not much help, trying to remember from years back!

From what I can imagine, you should receive December pay from the 1st to 31st as you are officially employed and maternity leave has not started yet.

Then your first 6 weeks of maternity pay will be paid at 90% of your wage, after this they will pay at smp rate.

They can't force you to take early maternity leave as far as I'm aware unless there's medical reasons so maybe someone has put the wrong date into payroll and you have been paid that instead of wages?

Yes I'm thinking that's what's happened too 🤔🤔 it's not too much of an issue just wondering how it's going to affect future payments or my going back date, if it will at all lol

It shouldn't affect your going back date, it should start from the 1st January, I would get them to confirm they have the correct start date as well, so they can't get you back before your maternity period ends.

I think I remember my midwife giving me the form to give to my employer to do with maternity pay? And her advising me to make a copy as employers are notorious for losing them? Can't remember the forms name now though.

If you have an email or a letter with your leave date keep a copy.

If your maternity started on the 31st then you have accrued a weeks pay regardless of how the company pay their wages.
