Feeling like when my period is coming 35 weeks pregnant

Hi

As the title says I feel just like when my period is starting. Aching lower back and stomach with heavy feeling, slightly aching breasts. I'm not in any great pain or major discomfort. I just feel achy.

Is this normal at this point? I'm closer to 36 weeks and had my ds at 35 weeks and didn't have this. I don't feel like baby is engaged however my bump has dropped a lot the past few days and braxton hicks have started again.

Is this something to get checked or just body getting prepared?

Get checked for sure. My sister was the same and her DS was born at 35 weeks. Good luck x

Timmytoo · 08/01/2020 15:43

I got this 3 weeks before labour.

Thoughtlessinengland · 08/01/2020 15:45

Currently getting exactly this (although my baby is deeply engaged) at 37 + 4. DS came at 372, without any of this. Waiting and watching now. Good luck to you.

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 08/01/2020 16:57

I had this too OP, it drove me nuts, but I delivered baby today at 39 weeks. I would get checked out if you are worried though. That's what the midwives are for. Best of luck xxx

Thank you. I have been going backwards and forwards with should I call them. As I don't feel worried. It doesn't feel like last time but I suppose no 2 labours are the same. I'll definitely give them a call and see what they think. I'm hoping I won't have weeks of it from now.

Thank you

I'm sorry to say I've had this since 32 weeks I'm now 37+4. It's everything getting heavier and preparing your body. Of course if your worried give triage a call though

Eyre89 · 10/01/2020 07:34

Well I'm dilated about 2 cm but that could go on for ages. Have been having regular tightenings. Have been under observation for 24 hours. Hoping when they examine me Thai morning if cervix is still the same they'll let me go home? They were being cautious due to previous 35 week birth. The hospitals are soo busy. I really feel for the staff.

I'm 35+4 and having this too so following!

Have been feeling like the feeling I get before my period is about to turn up for week and a half now and a lot of pressure on my pelvic floor along with needing to pee at least hourly.

Eyre89 · 10/01/2020 08:09

It's more massively uncomfortable than painful. Occasionally there are some stronger pains. But my cervix has dropped and softened. But not established labour. Had a slight temperature. You're only 2 days behind me @Jsnb9319. I'm hoping that it doesn't go like this for weeks like some pp have said. Tightenings were disguising babies movements so it's nice to be reassured he's still happy. Its still all in darkness in the hospital so not sure when they will do rounds.

@Eyre89 I'm so glad you got checked! I was going to suggest trip to midwives but then can see your already way ahead- do you feel ok? Are you in the antenatal ward now?

Jsnb9319 · 10/01/2020 09:10

@Eyre89 can I ask what symptoms you called the midwives with or what made you call?

As you have said, it's more being uncomfortable rather than painful and I don't know whether to call or not because from what I can tell, period like feelings can be normal and I don't have any other labour like symptoms.

I called for something else last week and the midwife basically said if baby is moving like normal then not to worry, and currently he is moving fine!

Eyre89 · 10/01/2020 09:23

@Taddda yeah I'm in the antenatal assessment ward. I'm OK mainly uncomfortable and just feel a bit off. Pain is defintely there but it's bearable. The symptoms @Jsnb9319

Like my period was coming painful aching back and lower stomach. Heavy feeling in vagina and pressure. Heavy breasts. Stronger more regular braxton hicks. My heartburn is back with a vengeance. And I've felt nauseous. But I've had an injection for that so that's now gone thankfully. I felt not right and some of the symptoms were similar to when I spontaneously had my son at 35 weeks. And it didn't get any better it just is continuous now. I was more concerned about the pressure I was feeling and thatni couldn't recognise his movements. I was assuming everything was just getting ready but his movements became less. But he's fine its the tightenings that are masking it. And when you have no choice but to lie down all day you become more attuned.

I honestly thought I'd get here and they would say everything was just preparing. I'm still hopeful that I'll get to go home and come back once it's established labour. I'd say if you have doubts give them a call. They have been really nice to me. I've seen some women since I've arrived be seen and reassured really quickly and others who have needed to stay.

Its strange I would have much preferred to have been reassured and sent home. Hate being stuck here alone. But I felt relieved I hadn't wasted their time. Not that they would say that.

@Eyre89 thank you. I'll keep an eye and see how I feel over the weekend. At the moment I am in no way concerned I guess just not sure what might happen next if that makes sense.

Sorry you are in hospital by yourself, completely no fun! Wishing you the best x

HakunaMatataa · 10/01/2020 09:59

With my 2nd this feeling was coming and going for a few weeks before labour but it was my cervix dilating. I went for my 39 week appointment with the consultant and they said he had stopped growing so examined me and I was 3cm dilated. They gave me a sweep and sent me home and he was born that night. My first was a 35 weeker so they though DS 2 would be early. So I think I thought every twinge was labour starting.

Eyre89 · 10/01/2020 11:06

Thank you. I don't think he's coming yet. Now they've checked and he is happy and I'm not in established labour. But they are reluctant to let me go as my 1st labour was only about 6.5 hours and if I'm still I'm OK. If I walk around then it amps up abit. But I can take it easy at home. They are revaluating me this afternoon. So hoping if I take it easy they will let me go. As I don't think he is going to come yet as long as I take it easy.

No pregnancy is the same. This is totally different. I think I'll go over.

I had lots of period-type feelings towards the end of pregnancy. Very mild period pain, back ache, lots of pressure down below and 'dragging' sensations. Was just body getting ready I think.

Eyre89 · 16/01/2020 22:09

I've been readmitted since Tuesday. Still waiting for some tests back. But have pgp and an irritable uterus. 3cm dilated. Hospital is so so busy. Saw doc at 9am yesterday and they were meant to come back. Didn't see them again until today at 4pm for 3 minutes. They're so stretched.

nespressowoo · 17/01/2020 08:01

Sending lots of love , OP! Hope all ok and if you continue to dilate hope you have a smooth labour. Thanks

Eyre89 · 19/01/2020 07:53

So dilating I'm assumuning stopped. Although I haven't been examined internally since Wednesday morning. Saw a Dr Thursday night for 2 minutes who told me it was good I had almost got to 37 weeks. And we would watch and wait. Then left.

I saw a different Dr who said it does sound like my PGP and an irritable uterus. But we would talk about induction.

Saw another Dr yesterday and she said they could induce at 39 weeks. But wouldn't earlier unless I was mentally struggling or baby was distressed. He's doing OK. Being monitored. I'm still being monitored for pre eclampsia and an infection.

I cannot cope for another 2 weeks in here. I'm not sleeping I feel anxious. They won't tell me much. They keep saying my quick first labour is a concern. They're worried I won't get back in time.

But I can't walk anywhere a combination of PGP and the fact it sets off contractions. I wouldn't have come back in if i hadn't lost my plug and it hadn't felt like the beginning of my labour last time.

They agree with my concerns. But I still have no plan. Everyday it's just we will keep you in. If they send me home I'm worried I will either be in and out being admitted because of the pain. And it feels like wasting everyone's time (the Dr's have said it's not the case and they wouldn't keep me without reason) and it's so disruptive for everyone at home. Or I will not want to be a bother and wait too long and run the risk of potentially giving birth at home alone. Or on the way to hospital. It's making me really stressed all the uncertainty.

Do you think I have grounds to ask for 38 week induction? I don't think I can cope with even another 2 weeks of pain and potential admissions or being kept here. I'm so emotionally and physically drained and in pain. I could cope with a week. But I still don't want to be here.

I miss my son and I'm tired and sore and feel like I am just sat in a corner with no information. Every Dr says something slightly different. And I went 36 hours waiting to be examined due to a bleed and it was different Dr and she said no we won't do that and spent 2 minutes and left. I get they're busy I really do, I just feel like I'm In limbo.

Sorry for any mistakes I'm exhausted

Ive just started having ever so slight period type cramping at 31 weeks. It also only happens at nights, and there no real pattern to it.

Im not particularly worried because theres no real pattern to it and it seems to go away after a while.

Ive put it down to Braxton Hicks

Eyre89 · 19/01/2020 10:49

Well they gave me a stretch and sweep and my waters went as soon as she started it! Feel so relieved. So on my way

MissPepper8 · 19/01/2020 10:54

Ah there you are, glad you went in!

Dc2 I had exactly the same at 30 weeks, so bad I couldn't cope but I left it (mw told me off for not going in). It did settle down but getting dull ones on and off with braxton hicks.

I was going to say they're sweeping me at 38 weeks so they should let you (and they have). Hope everything goes smoothly x

UrsulaSings · 19/01/2020 11:05

Hope it all goes well!
