I know you cant put padded jackets or pramsuits under straps in a car seat but just wondered about fleece ones? If they are not padded are they ok or better not to altogether ans use a blanket?

Car seats are like little cocoons of cosiness so I'd say there's a risk of getting too warm in fleece as it's not breathable. Would be ok for a short trip if it's thin and not thick or padded but best to use normal layers and a blanket.

A thin fleece is fine - my daughter has a designated car fleece from H&M that we use in winter. She’s 2.5 and will not entertain a blanket, so this is a thin layer for a bit more warmth!

That said, only for shorter hops where the car doesn’t warm up much. If you are travelling any distance, they don’t really need anything. I don’t wear a coat in the car on longer trips, the heater does the job!

We’ve been told to get some fleece or fleece-lined baby grows to bring babies home from the hospital in winter - I picked some up in the Next sale! They’re just as thin as a normal baby grow but with that bit of extra warmth for the weather.

Fleece is fine. I had a tuppence and crumble starsnug which was very useful for both the car seat and the sling.

We had a morrck blanket which was amazing! Much easier that worrying about clothes and you can leave it on the car seat all the time.
