Should I wash new baby clothes?

Just that really.

I washed all my toddlers’ new clothes before she was born, but time is now of the essence running around after her whilst heavily pregnant.

Thoughts? Is it necessary? Thanks so much! x

I never bothered personally.

Undecided91 · 07/01/2020 20:36

Yes. I was all my new clothes never mind new baby clothes!! Think about WHO touched them before you bought them and all the dirt and germs

Undecided91 · 07/01/2020 20:36

*wash

Jesskir89 · 07/01/2020 20:41

I will be doing with non bio powder. Can you not try 1 load per week?

sirmione16 · 07/01/2020 20:43

Nope I never. And if you really want to do something maybe wash vests babygrows to save time. Just the undergarments as such.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/01/2020 20:53

People tell me to do this but nobody can tell me why? Is it just that people dont know who touched them before they came to you?

HarryHarry · 07/01/2020 20:53

Yes wash them.

HarryHarry · 07/01/2020 20:54

Newborn skin is sensitive. You want to wash off whatever might be on the clothes from being in the shop/factory/someone else’s house.

polkadotpixie · 07/01/2020 20:55

I never did, no issues

DarkDarkNight · 07/01/2020 20:57

I would. Aren’t they sprayed with something when stored in factories and warehouses? I put my Son in a top a while ago without washing it first and he had a rash over his back. I would definitely wash newborn clothes.

Savingforarainyday · 07/01/2020 21:10

Yes!
Like seriously

HollyBollyBooBoo · 07/01/2020 21:18

Jesus yes! They're sprayed in chemicals to stop them going mouldy on the journey from the manufacturer, that includes formaldehyde!!!

BertieBotts · 07/01/2020 21:30

I never have done. I have heard about the chemicals clothes get sprayed with for transport but since nobody in my family seems to have any reaction to this, I have deduced that it doesn't really matter.

Obviously if you have sensitive skin that would be different.

R2D2abc · 07/01/2020 21:45

Always washed. Wouldn't dress baby with stuff it's never been washed and other people might have touched in the shop.

I always wash mine when bought too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2020 21:48

Yes, definitely ,they spray all sorts on them.

How many clothes are there? It's not like you have to take them down to the river and beat them against a rock is it? Just bung them in the machine.

Mamasaurous · 07/01/2020 21:57

Odd one out here but... I’ve two children and literally never washed anything from a shop before use, only second hand stuff.... never had any issues !

MumofTinies · 07/01/2020 22:02

Yes I would. DS1 I never had any problems with new clothes, however DS2 would come out in a rash if I put him in unwashed new clothes. You don't know how sensitive this baby's skin will be so best to be on the safe side.

Aquilla · 07/01/2020 22:05

FFS, yes. Especially against the skin stuff (ie most things).

notaregularmom · 07/01/2020 22:06

5 kids here and I've never washed new things and had no issues. New stuff doesn't feel or look new once you've washed it Confused

RedSoloCup · 07/01/2020 23:42

Nope, 3 dcs and never ever have

EstebanTheMagnificent · 07/01/2020 23:44

I don’t think it deserves a FFS!

To answer your question OP - no, I didn’t bother.

preggers2020 · 07/01/2020 23:46

Mum said she never bothered, so I will not, unless I notice a problem. I would never wash my own either.

Babyg1995 · 07/01/2020 23:47

No I never I have 2 DC and never washed new baby clothes they were just fine due dc3 in a couple of months won't be washing new stuff.

cakeandchampagne · 07/01/2020 23:47

Wash new baby clothes!

WeeM · 07/01/2020 23:49

I never even knew this was a thing until I read it on here years after dc was born, it just never crossed my mind Confused
