Been to doctors literally begging them to give me something to help me as I’m suffering so bad, I feel so weak had to ring in sick at work and can’t give my Toddler the attention she needs.

I’ve been told I can’t be given anything in the first trimester 😩 is this even true as it sure I’ve read people have been prescribed things. Dr told me to try co coconut water and lime with a pinch of salt water.. the thought of these already makes me want to vom... girl down I’m totally ranting and totally fed up of this constant nausea

@Flowers08 I'm so sorry you are suffering. You can definitely be prescribed medication. Normally they start with cyclizine and then if that doesn't work a lot of women are prescribed ondansatron and sometimes metoclopromide. I've had all three as I've got hyperemesis but please seek a second opinion. I have been on medication since week 5.

Thanks Abbs

I’m going to have to go back and demand. The doctor I saw wasn’t very helpful and asked me if I wanted to harm my baby or not !! Hence why she won’t prescribe anything. Not the soothing words I was looking for really.

Hope you’re feeling ok x

I've been on cyclizine since week 6 and am still taking it now at week 40.

AiryFairyMum · 07/01/2020 13:01

Are you actually vomiting or it is just nausea? I don't think they are licensed for use if you're not vomiting, and thus risking dehydration.

justtheonethen · 07/01/2020 13:02

@Flower08 not true at all. Plenty of medications have been used safely in the firs trimester for years. Have a look at the pregnancy sickness support website for your options (usually first line is cyclizine or promethezine). If they won't give you anything then the PSS can help you access treatment. It's absolutely not acceptable that you're being fobbed off by your gp.

justtheonethen · 07/01/2020 13:03

@AiryFairyMum that's not true. They are used for nausea and/or vomiting.

Thanks so much I’m going to have a look now, my partners having to leave work shortly I just can’t look after my toddler I’ve never known anything so bad. I totally sympathise with every person who suffers nausea/ morning sickness

@justtheonethen thank you so so much for giving me the information above I have just spoken to a lovely lady I think her name was Tina and she has helped so much, she can’t believe I am being fobbed off she’s emailing me info and who to contact regarding this. And like you girls said the medication will NOT harm my baby. From the bottom of my heart thank you for giving me that link.

@Flower08 I'm so glad you got in touch with them. I have HG and a toddler so I totally get it, the nausea is the worst bit. I hope you get some help soon. Also remember that they can combine the drugs so if one doesn't work go back.

abbs1 · 07/01/2020 17:20

@Flowers08 I ended up going to hospital to get medication as 3 gp's didn't give me medication and said to eat ginger and chocolate as they didn't know I was suffering hyperemesis. In all honesty without medication and going into hospital multiple times a week I would have lost the baby or nearly died as I couldn't even keep water down. Please seek other help till you get some. I've been on cyclizine ondansatron metoclopromide anti blood clotting drugs steroids all sorts and so far my baby is perfectly fine. I have a scan tomorrow and to see the consultant again.

Bol87 · 07/01/2020 17:58

So glad you found support @Flower08 - it beyond infuriates me the lack of consistency between GP’s and anti-sickness meds in pregnancy. There needs to be new guidelines they have to follow! There are several very safe options. For both nausea & vomiting. Nausea is often as debilitating as vomiting as it never ends and can prevent you from eating/drinking & functioning! I hope you are able to see a more up to date GP & get some support!

Flower08 · 07/01/2020 19:50

It’s really angered me Bol87 cos if it wasn’t for ringing for support today I don’t know what I’d have done. The hospital are seeing me tomorrow and also testing my urine for dehydration etc and said they’ll prescribe anti sickness tablets.. hearing that was honestly like winning the lottery.

And abbs you’ve really had it rough I totally sympathise with you.
I’ve found work very difficult as not yet told anyone and had to act like I’m feeling ok when I’ve felt I’m dying.

Hopefully tomorrow will be the start of feeling better.

Take care girls

@Flower08 how did you get on at the hospital?

Flower08 · 08/01/2020 20:02

Hi @justtheonethen

Thanks for asking.

Lady who I saw was lovely in fact I threw up in a bucket next to her when we was going through things so she knew how bad I were and she said herself that dr should not have left you like this.

I’ve been prescribed the cyclizine and I already feel so much better I’ve been able to eat a little better tonight, and I’ve been given thiamin as my body isn’t storing any from the food I’m eating which is leaving me totally wiped out n foggy headed. I’m back in work tomorrow and ready for my shift now I’ve got these tablets.

If it wasn’t for you sharing that link I don’t believe I’d be feeling any better so I’ll forever be grateful to this lovely stranger I spoke to on mumsnet 😀🥰

@Flower08 I think I might cry! I'm so glad I clicked your thread and you got some help. That's wonderful news. Wishing you a happy rest of your pregnancy. Just don't forget that there are other options if the cyclizine stops working.

Flower08 · 08/01/2020 20:24

@justtheonethen thank you so much 💕💕
