Hi. What is the deal with nuts in pregnancy. My dh brought me some chocolates with nuts in and I have been leaving them till I had my midwife appointment but they keep glaring at me I am tempted to eat them.
Also I read some where you cant eat deli ham. Is that the same for prepackaged ham. Thanks

Google nhs pregnancy and food. The nhs website tells you everything you need to know. The chocolate and ham are fine.

In terms of ham, it's just uncooked cured meats you can't eat. If it's packs of cooked ham, it's fine.
With the nuts there are now studies saying that exposure in pregnancy helps to build up immunity and is unlikely to cause allergies. I ate nuts all the way through with dc1 without any issues

A lot of the misinformation about deli meat and peanuts comes from US sources & websites - food safety standards And guidelines are quite different in the USA. UK cooked meat is fine, as are nuts unless you have ever had a reaction.

Nuts fine
Pre packed ham is fine
Deli meats (cured stuff like pepperoni) ok if cooked or frozen for 4 days before eating

If you're in the UK Just go with NHS advice in link above and ignore anything else. My midwife specifically recommended I eat nuts for morning sickness.

Cat I spent half the first trimester eating a large packet of salt and vinegar peanuts or cashew nuts every day, more or less. Kept the nausea at bay.

Stick to the NHS guidance any you'll be fine.

I live on nuts during the second half of my pregnancy. They are the one of the only snacks I can tolerate that keep the hunger/sickness thing at a lower level!

I eat unsalted cashews, peanuts (mostly peanut butter) & walnuts mostly. Pretty sure most common nuts are fine!

I agree, the deli meat thing comes from the US. In the UK, packaged sandwich meats are safe to eat. I personally avoid meat off the deli counter itself as having worked on one as a teenager, I know things aren’t always as hygienic as you might hope 🙈 whereas pre-packed is all done by machines!

As above, best advice is the NHS website, it’s really comprehensive. Enjoy your chocolate!
