Bad relationship with food during pregnancy

I'm 9 weeks today, I've had severe morning sickness up until a few days ago and now I cannot stop eating!! I used to have bulimia so I've always had a rubbish relationship with food. I haven't gained any weight yet but I'm obsessed with the scales and I feel guilty after eating. I know I sound like a horrible mother but it's just the way I am.

Has anyone else had ravenous eating during pregnancy? How can I control it?

Hi, my pregnancy has triggered some old bad eating habits for me too. I’ve had serve sickness and lost 10 pounds in around 5 weeks. Now I’m feeling better I’m finding it hard to up the eating to normal and obsessing about the scales. I’ve talked to my DP and he’s going to help make sure I’m eating enough. I’m trying to except that of course I will put in weight during pregnancy which is totally normal and healthy

The first 5 months of this pregnancy severe hyperemesis has stopped me eating properly due to vomiting and medication and I lost over 15lbs. Now I'm 7 months and cannot stop eating no matter what and I'm worried how much weight I'm putting on. I had an eating disorder around 7 years ago and worried I'm gonna go back down that road and a bad relationship with food will return as I feel guilty after every time I eat.

Up until about 12/13 weeks I was eating like a horse. If I didn;t eat, I felt sick. I ate so many processed carbs too!!

Now (20wks) I am back to normal habits.

In regards to weight, I put on about a stone ( i was 8st 10lbs pre preg) by 17/18 weeks, and have plateaued at that for the time being.

Its normal in early pregnancy to put weight on and also, not to put anything on at all, everyone is different.

You sound totally normal to me!! I hope the morning sickness goes away like mine did

If you don’t put on the expected amount of weight your midwife will be concerned about you and most likely refer you to the consultants. I would try to take control of this yourself and if you can’t, mention it to your midwife to get support.

I was very slow to gain weight due to nausea and then an illness in my second trimester so didn’t gain any weight until around 25 weeks. Even then I wasn’t eating loads as I had mild antenatal depression which made me very apathetic about food. I basically made sure I ate good nutritionally balanced meals for the sake of the baby but struggled to eat much extra. It was noticed at appointments and I did end up having a slightly small baby and my milk was very slow to come in and I can’t help but wonder if my food intake played a part.
