Anyone else over 40 and pregnant? I'm 42 and due in July (I think, haven't had scan yet and it was all a bit unplanned so not sure of lmp date). This will be my 5th child but I'm struggling much more with pregnancy this time - so nauseous!!!

Hello! Congratulations!! I'm 44 and 5 weeks so very early days. I had an ectopic last year so very very nervous but taking each day as it comes. My DD is 9 so it's 10 years since I done this and I'm shattered lol. How are you feeling?

Hi yes just turned 41 currently 6 months pregnant with baby no 4, yes I agree so different to my other pregnancies my last one was 6 years ago, I am also have had bad nausea this time round and omg the tiredness is on a different level but I put that down to I am older and I have 3 other children to run round after. I hope you feel better soon. X

Hi both of you. Congratulations. Yes, last time for me was over 5 years ago. I'm so tired as well. Literally falling asleep so early, but then wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep!!!

@memberofseven Thank you! I'm the same, so so tired but restless in bed and keep waking with restless legs etc. I can't relax though as constantly worried about every slight niggle. I have a scan in 2 weeks to make sure it's in right place so fingers crossed I can get over that first hurdle

@weediva fingers crossed for you. I very much hope it sticks. I'm a bit in denial. I haven't even managed to phone the midwife yet. I can't quite explain it, but it's almost like I can't quite acknowledge it's happening. I lost my mum a few months ago and it feels like a little miracle. I thought I was menopausal!!!

So, I finally booked a midwife appointment and they have slotted me in for this morning. I think I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I'm pregnant again - that people will judge me for having a child in my 40's when I already have a big family.

@memberofseven how did you get on? Don't feel like that, it's nobody's business and if you are happy those that matter will be happy for you (that's what I keep telling myself!!)

Ahh thank you for asking. Got on fine. I've been put down for consultant care because my first baby was 4kg - nothing to do with my age. No one cared with the 3 after her but now it matters apparently!! Midwife was very nice and not at all judgmental and has referred me for a scan urgently so just waiting for the phone call. Apparently due to my age(!) I'll get 2 extra scans as well.

Amazingly (in spite of the consultant referral) I have managed to stay low risk so should be allowed a home birth if that's what I want. I haven't decided yet but no 4 was born at home. I thought I had put on loads of weight from eating toast but actually it wasn't too bad and I've managed to keep my bmi down.

In my area they will offer induction at 40 weeks and stretch and sweep from 38. Hopefully it won't be needed!

How are you feeling?

I'm glad it all went well, I hope it makes you feel better about it all. Were they able to give you any idea of due date?
I spoke to midwife yesterday and she never said a thing about my age, she was actually lovely and much nicer than the ones I seen 10 years ago. I've just got to wait patiently until my scan at 7 weeks as keep thinking I can't get excited or anything yet as don't know whether it's in right place.
I never realised about the extra scans! One bonus of being an old mum I suppose!

memberofseven · 09/01/2020 10:33

I've got my scan date - the 20th so I think we will be getting scanned around the same time. I think I will be very close to the 14 week cut off but it is what it is. I think the baby is due the last week in July. I've had a summer born before and it has a lot of advantages!!

I haven't got the consultant appointment yet. Can't wait for the nausea to move on. I've been going to bed with the kids all week!!

Hi all it’s been reassuring reading this thread of women over 40s and pregnant. I am 40 and have 3 children Age 14, 11, 8 and I really want another baby but was so worried about being 40. I read on google about TTC for women over 40 and all I saw was really negative stuff about age, egg quality and big risks with babies health and it really put me down.
If any of you can share your stories of conceiving naturally and how long it took that would be lovely x

memberofseven · 09/01/2020 14:46

Hi kay! I wasn't trying to conceive, it happened naturally the one time we didn't use contraceptive. I'm 42. My mum conceived me naturally at 42 as well and I've been looking at my family tree and lots of 40plus mums on both sides over the years.

I have pcos but have always conceived easily. Obviously I'm worried about genetic risk and also a multiple birth but hoping that the scan will alleviate some of that concern. My husband is younger than me and apparently that reduces the genetic risk a little bit.

Good luck.
