Sweet taste in mouth

Hi!
I've had a sweet taste in my mouth (that comes on randomly) since very early on in my pregnancy, maybe even as early as 5 weeks.
When my pregnancy nausea was at its worst, the sugar taste was barely there for a few weeks. But since the nausea has gone off at around 17 weeks, the sugar taste is back again.
I'm now 22 weeks, and the last 4 days I have really increased my fluid intake and the sugar taste has not been there, or barely been there.
Today it seems to be back again, but I think maybe I haven't eaten/drunk enough.
I'm getting totally paranoid that I've got gestational diabetes. I didn't have it last pregnancy but I was 2 stone lighter so never needed to be tested for it.
I've got the GTT at the start of February.
I'm not having any other symptoms of diabetes.
Anyone had this taste? Should I be worried?
Thanks!

I've had this taste, also as early as 5 weeks, although when I've described it I've called it vanilla flavour. For me it's this really sweet vanilla flavour especially first thing in the morning. I'm 8 weeks now and starting to get nausea sometimes and you're right, I only get this taste when I'm not nauseous. No idea if it's gest diabetes tho, except that I'm fairly low bmi so I was hoping I'm low risk for that. I haven't asked about it 🤔 but maybe I will at my appt next week

Mine used to be mostly in the morning as well @Umberta I'm glad to hear someone else is getting it fairly early on in pregnancy as well.
My midwife doesn't seem concerned but sometimes I just think she seems so busy she is keen to move me on so she can get her next appointment in.
I've got a GP appointment tomorrow but he'll probably think I'm crazy/tell me to wait until my glucose test.

Btw I just thought, do you get acid reflux? Because I do a lot, I got it before pregnancy too. Just thinking whether it's related to that somehow, tho usually acid reflux tastes...well...acidic! This definitely doesn't, 100% vanilla for me. I had it yesterday again so it's funny you mentioned it!

I do get acid reflux yes, and terrible heartburn most of the time, aside from pregnancy!

Lucky you. Sweet sounds good. Many of us get a ghastly silvery metallic taste and it is unbearable. I lived on satsumas to try to mask it

Engard · 05/01/2020 20:58

I think it's normal, I've had it throughout my pregnancy but all my tests have been fine.
I get awful acid too....

HappyGirl86 · 11/01/2020 14:47

Last pregnancy it was the metallic taste @damnthatanxiety but this time it's this sweet almost acidic taste. To a point where it makes me feel like I'm going to vomit. Definitely not enjoyable.
Of course neither is the metallic taste either!

I'm wondering if it's acid related now @Engard I do get heartburn and struggling with it even more so now.
