First time posting a message - I hope it works! Haven't been able to find info anywhere else! At booking appt last fri midwife told me to book a blood test this week. Tried to do that this morning but there was only one - 11.35 today. (next one is next thurs - first day of school term and haven't told anyone yet!)I thought midwife told me to fast for two hours (had toast at 8 to prevent sickness!). The (very unfriendly) woman on the phone told me she had only heard of 12 hour fasting blood tests, and was unable to ask anyone how long i needed to fast. I have booked the appt anyway and hope it is ok. Any thoughts?

what was the blood teset for piggy

fawkeoff · 28/08/2007 10:22

have only heard of fasting when they do a glucose tolerance test

I think it was for all the routine screening things - blood group, sickle cell etc - nothing that appeared to need fasting.

i was never asked to fast apart for the gtt

no if it's only for that you will be fine.

if it just the first lot of bloods as you said then you dont need to fast, the only one you need to fast for is the glucose tolerance test but thats not usually until later in the pregnancy
