Hey Guys

So me and my husband found out we are having our first baby a couple of days ago. due august 2020 (weve estimated) Came as a shock as we thought it would take alot longer but surprisingly happened after 3 weeks off the pill?! so greatful!

Anywho, ive been to the doctors and they have referred me to the midwife to have my first dating scan...

how long does it usually take to hear from the midwife after your doctors appointment?

at your dating scan do you get a scan photo to take home? and can my husband come into the meeting with me?

when do you start showing? i have worked out from my last period i am approximately 6.5 weeks pregnant and so far symptoms include cramps (similar to period pain), the worst cold ever, sore nipples and the constant feeling of being bloated. Anyone else having/had anything similar? what symptoms are coming? Will i ever feel.. 'comfortable' whilst being pregnant?

just looking for any advice for a first time mum who doesnt really know anything about whats happening or going to happen! eeep!

xxx

My area they try to do booking in appointment at about 8 weeks

We had to pay for photos at scan. £5 for 3. Husband was with me, he was welcome to come to any appointments but they like to have at least 1 without him, because they will ask about domestic violence because it is more likely to start during pregnancy apparently.

I showed really early, I had a nice bump by 12 weeks. Often you bloat early pregnancy which looks like a bump too. Depends on your build too.

Everyone and every pregnancy is different. I had stretching pains/cramps sore nipples and lots of morning sickness. Went off coffee too. Did I feel comfortable? for about 4/6 weeks between 26 weeks and 30 ish, but I don't do pregnancy well I friends really enjoyed pregnancy.

Congratulations

Congratulations!

I heard from the midwife around 7 weeks and had my booking appointment at just over 9 weeks. I would advise taking your husband along to the booking appointment as they'll ask a lot of medical questions and give you an outline on what to expect the next few months.

Your dating scan will be at 12 weeks and yes you'll be able to purchase some photos! It's rare they're free, so take some change with you. I think it's around £5 for a couple.

Every appointment you'll be allowed to take your husband, they'd never say no!

I was a size 8-10 and started showing around week 9 and then properly bloomed around 16 weeks where it was noticeable.

Everyone has different symptoms so do not worry. My worst symptom was morning sickness up until 17-18 weeks!

I now have 7 weeks until my baby is due and it has been the most wonderful experience so far.

Hope this helps x

thank you for your reply!

i never knew you had to pay for the scans, i assumed they were free! so thats really handy to know, ill deffo have to take some cash with me!!

glad to know im not alone! i feel bloated and i do feel like my stomach looks a little larger.. but not sure if thats just because i enjoyed myself too much at christmas haha!

i am so nervous about telling work, i think i want to wait till im 12 weeks but worried my belly will give it away before then. im so scared about what they will say.. :/

You'll definitely have some natural bloating whilst your body prepares to host a baby for the next few months.

I told my manager at 7 weeks due to the sickness and also because I was showing that little bit early so if I needed an extra break then it would be understandable. Don't be scared, they cannot discriminate x

I personally wouldn't take him to the booking in one, it's long and he's not needed; as a PP mentioned they will want to ask you questions about your relationship which they can't do if he's there.
He can go to all scans and then I would suggest he goes to the midwife with you from at the 16week appointment onwards - these are the ones where they listen to the heartbeat so that's nice for both of you.
I'm 21 weeks with my second, round but still spent every day pulling up my trousers as I'm too fat for normal trousers but not fat enough to hold up my maternity ones 😂
Congratulations OP.

NHS scans are free - it's the photos you pay for. They're £5 each where I live. You're automatically scanned around 12 and 20 weeks, though I had more first time around. Some mums get additional scans done privately - those you have to pay for.

I'm 7+5 and saw the doctor on 11 Dec (at 4 + 2); I got a call from the hospital on 30 Dec to let me know the date and time of my appointments. They send a letter through, too, but haven't got that yet. My booking appointment (the one with the midwife, which I've been told can last over an hour – they take blood, measure you and go over family medical history) is 11 Jan and 12-week scan is 4 Feb (I'll be 12+1). DH isn't going to the booking appt as he is away (plus it's in the middle of the day) but he's booked off a half day to come to the scan.

My symptoms are similar: super sore boobs; bumpy areola; have gone off eggs and milky coffee (even though I usually drink oat milk); tired, tired, tired!

I think I told the doctor early on like 5/6 weeks but wasn't given a booking in appointment until 10 weeks. I did have scans during that time due to previous mc but that was all done under the hospital.

Yes husband can come to scans, appointments, I'd also say he is not needed at the booking in appointment.

Showing wise, you will bloat at first. I had to do the hair tie trick from around week 13 or so I believe and then I bought nat jeans though were a bit big. More noticeable at around 20 weeks. I've now 'popped' at 28 but still not very big.

Comfy wise more trips to toilet during the night as expected so broken sleep and then restless legs have started. I've had a couple of minor problems with previous injuries glaring up where everything is moving around but thankfully nothing major. Getting more tired now but sickness stopped at 16 weeks and from them to about week 25 I felt great bar the odd flare up. Wouldn't change it for the world though, it's flying by so enjoy it if you can Smile
