Just had abdominal scan and now bleeding?

I just had an ultrasound literally 3 hours ago at one of those private clinics. She put me at 6 weeks 5 days and showed me the heartbeat which she said was "a good strong heartbeat". An hour after arriving home I noticed blood when I wiped, its bright red but theres no clots. It's still continuing. Not heavy but not what I would call spotting either. I have no cramping or pain. Could the pressing on my abdomen have caused it? Terrified now Confused

It could be that the scan has caused abit of irritation and bleeding. If there is a heartbeat that's a really good sign everything will be fine.
You can always phone 111 and they will get you checked out, most likely they will have you booked in for a hospital scan, before 8/9 weeks this to would be internal.

You've got no cramping so that's good, if you do have cramps or clots or the bleeding gets worse please go straight to A and E.
The bleeding should settle, it's not unusual after an early scan.
Hope everything settles soon xx

I'm on pregnancy no.4. The only one I haven't bled with, I miscarried a twin. Infact, I knew I was pregnant with no.4 because I was bleeding when I wasn't having periods (breastfeeding)
It is incredibly common in the first few months because your hormones are all over the place. Seeing a heartbeat today is great. I know it's hard but try not to worry too much, have a bath and relax and see how you are tomorrow. I don't think anyone would scan over the weekend anyway.

Sonographer here! This is all incorrect information from mummyG85. An abdominal scan will not cause you to bleed at all. It does not cause irritation or bleeding! Do not ring 111, they cannot book you an appointment for a scan. Only a doctor or midwife can arrange an early pregnancy scan. It will also not necessarily be an internal scan before 8/9 weeks. It is entirely dependent on what can be seen abdominally.

If the bleeding continues, becomes painful, gets heavier or you see clots please call your midwife, GP or local Early pregnancy unit in your local hospital. An nhs scan cannot take into consideration any private scans so be aware this would be treated as your first scan and you will more than likely have to have a second scan 7-10 days later.

Many women bleed all through pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies. Please do not cause yourself unnecessary worry just yet. If you are still worried in the morning call your Early pregnancy unit tomorrow and ask their advice.

Also was cringing reading the pps advice as a scan should not cause bleeding at all, especially that early. I'd call your midwife line if you've been assigned one. If not, GP. You've got advice from a proffesinal, trained, knowledgeable sonographer above - she's the one to listen to

Just wanted to thank everyone for their replies and update. I ended up calling 111 on Saturday evening who were lovely and put me through to my local EPU. Continuing to bleed on and off, albeit lightly. They have arranged me a scan for Tuesday morning which is in a few hours time. I'm pretty terrified tbh, something just doesn't feel right.

@Aachoo Hoping everything goes well for you today

Just wanted to update as hate reading threads and not knowing outcome. Bleeding has stopped and we had a scan this morning which showed heartbeat and everything fine. No known cause of bleeding apart from it probably being implantation. Which means I've had THREE implantation bleeds in this pregnancy so far. A great relief to see the heartbeat.
