Too much movement?

I know we should be on the look out for reduced movements but what about too much movement? My baby has been going crazy for a good few hours, it's very uncomfortable.

It's not only reduced movements you are to look for, but also a change in normal pattern. Moving a lot more all of a sudden could be ok or needs to be checked.

Ring your maternity unit for advice.

How many weeks are you? I've never heard of too much being a bad thing.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 03/01/2020 19:48

Came to say what @R2D2abc said. Probably fine but always worth checking things out.

latheritup · 03/01/2020 19:51

A change in pattern isn't necessarily slowing down, it could also be speeding up. Please call your maternity unit to be on the safe side. Hope all is well OP!

Yes, what they say. It's a change in pattern, not necessarily a reduction, that you're looking for

whiskersonkittenss · 03/01/2020 19:59

Go and get checked. My midwife says any change in pattern is worth looking at. They won't be annoyed with you at all.

How many weeks are you? Increased movement can be a sign of distress as well as reduced movement. If you're worried it's always best to get checked out.

I'm 36 weeks. He's stopped now 🤷🏻‍♀️ got me all worried! Gonna jump in the bath to see what happens

Someone I know had this and it was their baby moving from breech to head down 👍

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 03/01/2020 20:30

I had this Xmas day and Boxing Day. Went from 5 movements a day to 50 and seriously worried me. I rang the hospital and they said it was perfectly normal .
I've had reduced movement for the whole pregnancy (I was 32wks) and there was zero movement on my latest scan so I wouldn't class that as normal. I was worried as online it says the baby could be having a fit or be extremely distressed.

As AprilFernLouise said, this could be the baby turning, I was breech at my scan and now my midwife thinks it's turned.

I would get it checked. My midwife says any change should be checked. I'm paranoid about it because a friend happened to mention to her consultant in passing at a routine appointment that her baby had been going crazy for the last hour. She took it very seriously and, long story short, baby was born within the hour by emergency c-section.

I am 34+3 and called up my hospital a few weeks ago with increased movements. They said it was the right thing to do and the same advice now goes for both increased and reduced movements as the baby moving more than usual could be a sign of the baby being in distress.
I was kept in for monitoring for about an hour and all was fine and they reassured me that I did the best thing by phoning up for advice and coming in 😊
