I'm just getting a little anxious as I was told to try and harvest milk from 36 weeks and I've had nothing. This is my second c section, first was an emergency, which really effected baby feeding. My milk didn't come in until day 5 by which time we had had a prolonged stay in hospital because he'd lost so much weight.

Is there anything I can do to get things going? I know breast feeding is notoriously more difficult to kick off after a section.

I find it comes in the shower with a little stimulation.

I’ve had three sections and it was around the 4/5 day mark that milk came in, I didn’t know you could harvest milk this early on. I would say if you have no luck just take some formula with you to cup feed if possible. My daughter was so hungry her first night we were both distraught and midwives wouldn’t give her formula until early hours of the morning after I’d walked her up and down crying her little heart out exhausted after a section. With my son I just took my own ready made bottles you can buy for new born babies just incase. And I did use them, tiny amounts but it meant he wasn’t upset and neither was I. Your milk will arrive when it’s ready, just be prepared for the wait, good luck.
