Correct car seat installation

We retro-fitted isofix fixings into our Ford Focus today, and fitted our Maxi Cosi Pebble newborn seat. Both base and seat are not new to us but from a trusted family member, absolutely certified not in any accidents, etc.

Am I correct that when using the isofix base, we shouldn't need to use the seat belt too? We've found that the seat belt doesn't fit around the seat - other threads have suggested this is a known issue with Fords, they have short seat belts!

I'm surprised though how much side to side movement there is when the seat is in the base. All the lights are on on the base, indicating correct fitting. The seat is able to wobble a couple of inches to either side though when pushed. Is this OK? If not, who can I get to look at it, considering we've not bought new from anywhere?

Thanks.

I've got the same base

I went back to the shop to say it didnt feel secure to me as it seemed wobbly to me, they said no car seat or base will not wobble at all but it doesnt mean it's not secure, halfords or a place like that may check it, worth an ask if its gonna put your mind at rest xx

Thanks @aimzxo, that's reassuring. I might pop by Halfords next week (when DH is at work!) and see if they'll check it for me...

Anyone else have experience of this?

If car seat is on base you don't need the seat belt too. It shouldn't wobble a lot - is the foot part fully extended and tight against the floor? This should stop a wobble and stabilise it along with the metal locks secured on the Isofox bar. But I suppose the lights would tell you if part of this wasn't secure enough.

As previous PP said - good to get it checked for peace of mind!

It shouldn't wobble at all regardless of base or seatbelt.
If isofixed don't use belts.
Fords do have shirt belts but often there's work around to make them fit. Instead of clipping first then moving round back move round back then clip see this for more info erfmission.com/joie-stages-too-short-seatbelt-syndrome-fixed-guide/

I fitted my base yesterday to my Focus(it had iso fix though) there is a very slight wobble.

Ours has a slight wobble but 2 inches either side is a lot. I would get the base checked as there was a fault on many of them and they were recalled.

Isofix installations can have some play. It's perfectly safe. Try wobbling it from the base rather than the top.
