Positive test at 3 weeks?!

From my last period it states that I'm 3 weeks pregnant but can a test show a positive so soon?
I'm a little confused, because I went to the clinic today, the nurse did some checks and told me I was pregnant. When I told the nurse my dates she said a positive would not show that quickly.
So I must be further along accept I had a heavy bleed and sharp cramps before.

Some tests are so sensitive that it can pick up 8 days after ovulation so no 3 weeks isn’t too early. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

HCG levels can vary from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy, so it's absolutely possible, and different tests can have different sensitivity levels. For example, What to Expect When You're Expecting (which I highly recommend) gives the following "normal" HCG levels:
3 weeks 5 to 50 mlU/L
4 weeks 5 to 426 mlU/L
5 weeks 19 to 7,340 mlU/L
6 weeks 1,080 to 56,500 mlU/L

My LMP was 11 Nov and got my BPF on 6 Dec; the test showed me as 1–2 weeks pregnant (I think the dating tests show gestational time rather than the time from LMP, which the doctor uses). I've since had a scan and from the dates, I now know I was 3+4 when I took the test.

Thank you everyone.
The nurse just confused me a lot. Besides cramps, not being able to sleep at all there are no symptoms.
Just found out exdp had been cheating on me all over Christmas, so it was very much a shock along with the nurse acting as if I maybe further along then 3 weeks.
Congratulations to everyone else who's pregnant. Smile

I didn't have any symptoms till 5/6 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about no symptoms at 3 weeks.
