Crib advise!!!

21 weeks pregnancy with our second beautiful boy and thinking about cribs and wanted some advise.
DS1 was in a Wooden cot style (to look at) crib. I regretted it, it didn't look very cosy for him and he would stick his limbs out and got stuck. He would never sleep unless I put him on my pillow on there (which fitted perfectly so I was happy with safety). I've been looking at the Snuzpod3 and love it! I like the look and like the fact the top can be detached and moved around, but I was disappointed when I saw how small it was in a shop! My DS1 was 9lbs4oz on his due date so I have obvious concerns about the size of this one and don't want him to outgrow the crib too quickly!
Anyone had the snuzpod of have any recommendations for something similar?
We want baby in our room for as long as possible as we're still at my parents whilst saving some money and our first son is already in the spare room :)

Thank you!

We got the next to me as it’s bigger than the snuzpod. This is my first child but of me and my 5 siblings the smallest was me at 9lb6, and the biggest was 13lb9 so I’m preparing for a big baby just in case!

We've gone for the Shnuggle Air crib as it converts to a cot once the baby has outgrown the initial 'crib' stage. It seemed like the best value for money as a result.

You can buy kits to make the snuzpod bigger. I think it can even be made up into a toddler bed size? But obviously the kits are expensive.

RhymingRabbit3 · 02/01/2020 10:09

Ah sorry it's the snuzkot which can be made larger - same brand but not a "next to be" type of crib

Thesearmsofmine · 02/01/2020 10:12

I haven’t used a snuzzpod but I did have the next to me for ds3. He was 8lb 9 and 60cm long at birth and stayed long and chunky and was in it until around 8 months old at which point he still had room but he was pulling himself up in it so had to swap to a cot.

CaramelWaferAndTea · 02/01/2020 10:13

My little boy was big and very tall - 99 centile for height. Had the snuzpod and it fitted until we moved him into his own room at 5.5 months, think it would have done us til 6 and not much more.

Willow4987 · 02/01/2020 10:17

We had a chicco next to me as it’s bigger so DS could be in it longer.

sassenach84 · 02/01/2020 10:23

Had the snuzpod and loved it. Used it for my daughter until 9-10 months, though she was pretty average size - 7lbs at birth. I went for the snuzpod over chicco because our bed is very high and snuzpod was taller. Thought I might use the removable top part too but never did in the end, just didn't have a need to move it around.

We have a next to me. DS1 was still in it when we took it on holiday as a travel cot when he was about nine months. It was fine until he could pull himself up. DS2 might not get quite so long out of it as he’s bigger than his brother (8lb9oz at birth compared to 7lb4oz). Both were 75-91st centiles for length.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!
A few of you have said "next to me" is this the Chico brand? Or something different?
I've felt a few in the shops and they felt a bit wobbly but that might just be because they were displays

I'm also looking at the schnuggle air bedside crib. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I have the tutti bambini cozee for peanut due in april and its lovely! Looks really nice in the light grey with the wooden frame, I put it up and tried his bedding on it too and it looks huge! Will definitely last 7-8 months I reckon!

Keyboard91 · 02/01/2020 16:41

Yes, I meant the chicco next to me. We’ve gone for the latest one (think it’s called dream?) as I prefer how the side just slides down with one hand. It’s not at all wobbly at home.

welshweasel · 02/01/2020 16:43

We had a next to me. Bought secondhand. Got new mattress. Sold for same price I bought it for. All the fabrics are machine washable.

jmacat86 · 02/01/2020 16:44

I have the Tutti Bambini, was disappointed in the size of the Snuzpod and wasn’t convinced about the Chicco. The Tutti Bambini feels better built and looks like it could last about 7-8 months which would be ideal even when he’s in his own room.

maryberryslayers · 02/01/2020 16:48

We had the tutti bambini and it was very spacious and sturdy.
DS was very long and it fitted him fine until 6 months when he could pull himself up on to his feet so had to go in to his cot.

Firsttimemama2017 · 02/01/2020 16:49

I had a snuz pod and my daughter fitted in it comfortably until 6 months and she was larger than average (95 percentile) and 8lbs14 born

DappledThings · 02/01/2020 17:55

We had a Snuzpod. DD was quite little early on, only 6lb 5 at birth but she was in it till she was 10 months quite happily so even a bigger baby ought to get a good long time fitting in it.

november90 · 03/01/2020 06:37

Thanks for all the advice everyone!
I really have fine off the snuzpod... I'm just disappointed it's so small and I think I'd be anxious spending that much money when my baby will likely be a big one! I quite like the look of the tutti crib!
Does anyone know anywhere that tends to have them on show or any baby fairs in the north west?

ive just purchased the Chicco Next2me dream, got it in sale in mothercare. I prefered this one as it has a leaver to put the side down instead of a zip and is much bigger than the snuzpod.

Justwatchthewildflowersgrow · 06/01/2020 15:14

Another vote for the chicco next to me we used it until our daughter was 6 months and then transitioned her to her own room and the big cot. Ours never felt wobbly at all and it straps to the bed too which also makes it feel secure and its not going to slide away.
