I've got gallstones but I'm not pregnant. Was ttc but have put it off until my gallbladder is taken out. The pain is horrendous isn't it?

The pain relief I've had so far is not great nor effective, so I need to speak with my dr about trying something else.

Things that help me:
Hot bath, hot water bottle, lying on left side, low fat diet, reducing dairy, drinking water and avoiding trigger foods.

Buscopan sometimes helps as it stops the gallbladder contracting. I have no idea about medication suitable for pregnancy though, it sounds like you need another trip to the gp.

@Melc84 Any news from the scan?

I have a drs appointment in the morning to discuss the possibility of pancreatitis and arrange bloods at the hospital, to test to see is the h pylori has gone and to arrange an endoscopy.

Once all the results are back, we'll look at pain management and the dr has suggested we move on to morphine until the gallbladder is removed.

No advice really just wanted to say, as someone who previously had gallstones and emergency surgery to remove their gallbladder, I feel for you! I can't even imagine it happening when pregnant.
Hope you feel better/ find a solution soon xx

Hiya,
Yeah so gave me a scan and basically said there is nothing they can do untill DS is born... so 10 weeks time.
Just given me strong painkillers and sickness tablets.... iron tablets as well.
Meant eat like red meat etc to get iron up big then fatty foods like that irritate gallstones.

It’s the worse pain, they said it’s not effecting my baby but I can’t enjoy pregnancy cause of the pain!

Also just to add I had bad heartburn got tablets and was better but guess what gallstones cause.... acid reflux! Can’t write it

Said if I get a section (I have a heart shaped womb) then they will take it out then if not be keyhole surgery after DS is here

But hey pregnancy is great 😂😂

I had my first son almost 4 years ago. I'll never forget the woman across from me had gallstones. She used scream in pain. They induced her at 37 week as the pain was so bad.

Melc84 · 05/01/2020 22:26

Aw it’s so bad, I can’t walk 10 mins without being in pain, I’ve stopped working early meant to be maternity in February but it’s too much..(own 2 pubs so on my feet a lot)
So now feel am just lying down as much as possible or in the bath to ease the pain

Jeez sounds like you are going through the ringer. Ask for an elective and get it out at the same time.... you have been through enough.

Weird and rank question but can I ask if it has affected the colour of your bowel movements? I had noro last week and now keep having white or manilla coloured poop - made the mistake of googling it and it says it could be an issue with gall bladder.

Now waiting for docs to open tomorrow so I can call them as worried!

Melc84 · 05/01/2020 23:33

I have my midwife on Tuesday so going to ask about it then

I’ve been constipated the last few weeks common as well with gallbladder plus iron tablets are causing that.

If it’s your gallbladder you will feel it trust me is a constant pain.
Hopefully for you it’s unrelated 🤞
