4+2 - Upset stomach or possible miscarriage? (TMI warning)

New here! Have just found out I'm pregnant (4+2 according to apps) but this morning shortly after waking up I had squirmy stomach cramps (like when you need to 'go' when you've got an upset stomach)

Dashed to the loo where they proceeded to get worse and worse, I began to sweat and ended up dripping in sweat, writhing around in pain and feeling like I was going to be sick. I was convinced I was miscarrying and called my husband into the bathroom to say so.

However this carried on for a few minutes with no bowel movement but then I had some diarrhoea (sorry I said it was tmi) - as soon as this happened it eased slightly. I then had another two episodes of diarrhoea after which the pains subsided to almost nothing and I began to feel more normal and I went back to bed.

I had no bleeding and have felt fairly normal since... However the mild AF like cramps that I've had for the last week have almost completely disappeared.

Should I be worried? I've never sweat so much with a normal upset stomach and it didn't feel like anything I've ever had before.

Any advice welcomed, I've got a doctors appointment on Monday but don't know if I need to go sooner?

Thanks all x

Hey. If you haven't had bleeding then I wouldn't worry. The hormonal changes can cause diarrhoea. Or it could have just been something that didn't agree with you? Keep drinking plenty of fluids. I'm sure the baby is fine x

P. S I also had this in early pregnancy. Fluctuated between constipation and diarrhoea 😞

Doesn’t sound like miscarriage to me, you’re prone to tummy upsets when pregnant so maybe just that... hope you feel better!

I had a stomach bug at 5 weeks, had loads of horrible stomach cramps and diarrhoea. In the end I didn't eat for 24 hours (just had dioralyte and squash) and that sorted it out.

Are you sure of your dates? I only mention it as diarrhoea can be a sign of an ectopic. I discovered this when I called the GP to check what I could take during said stomach bug and she insisted I go in to be seen and because my heart rate was fast sent me to hospital in an ambulance! All very dramatic (DS1 has a great time with the paramedics!) but all was completely fine in the end. If it doesn't settle or you get any one sided abdominal pain or pain in your shoulder I would see your GP.

I hope you feel better soon!

I had awful bowel/stomach things in first few weeks, wasn't a bug, was just what the hormones seemed to do to me (never threw up though). The hormones slow down your digestion. Fingers crossed that's what it is, especially if no bleeding.

Sunshinegirl82, we were using OPKs so pretty sure of the dates and when we conceived! It subsided almost as fast as it came on so I'm hoping the fact that it hasn't continued is a good sign. Thank you for the warnings though, good to know!

Thank you everyone, I'm hoping the lack of bleeding is positive - there's just so much confusing information out there and freaked me out that the main symptom I've been having (period type pains) has gone since the weird episode this morning! I'm going to be worrying for the next 9 months ConfusedGrin

I had almost the exact same symptoms at 5 weeks and it was because I had bled into an ovarian cyst. Not dangerous for you or pregnancy, but pretty unpleasant!

I then had ongoing cramps and a really sore belly a few days after that. The cyst had ruptured and the blood was irritating my abdominal lining - that was very unpleasant! Again, not dangerous. I had an early scan at that point to rule out ectopic pregnancy and that’s when they told me about the cyst. Baby is fine - I’m now 10+3 and everything is going smoothly 👍

Hi OP, just to say I have been riddled with diarrhea in both pregnancies, some of the most painful 'episodes' I've ever had. They seem to occur randomly, so at the beginning, 20 odd weeks, right at the end and after labour ... I can only put it down to hormones. Its been embarrassing at times (holiday with the in laws with a shared bathroom 😭) and sometimes after every evening meal for days on end (poor DH got used to me excusing myself from clearing the table!) but what I can say is never did I have bleeding, or did it lead to any complications at all in my pregnancies. Just drink as much as you can and eat sensibly. I'm sure all will be OK. Best of luck and congratulations

Thank you everyone - feeling more reassured now! Feel totally normal today but still a bit unnerved by lack of symptoms. I'll be regretting saying that when I'm puking my guts up!
