Twins measuring 2 weeks apart

I went for my scan at 6 weeks and it was showing a perfectly healthy baby with a heartbeat.

I went again 2 weeks later as I was feeling extreme sickness and I just felt like something was different. The scan now shows 2 heartbeats which was very surprising. However they measure 2 weeks apart (one is 7 weeks and one is 9 weeks). Praying for them both, and encouragement would be helpful as I have bad anxiety.

How exciting, congratulations!!! Sending both of your babies luck- have they any idea how/why this happened?

Thank you so much! Apparently you can get pregnant whilst pregnant which I didn't know about. It's called superfetation and is very rare but I guess it's too early to diagnose whether it is actually that or just poor growth

Same thing happened to me ... albeit it was a long time ago now. My twins were measuring 10 days apart and first scan showed only one with heartbeat and no baby in other sac ... until the next scan. It is very unusual but does happen so try not to worry and congratulations!

Really? Well that's positive news! I'm just praying so much every day that all is ok x

@xxreeldancerxx how early on was your first scan if you don't mind me asking? I had a scan this week at 8+5 and the ultrasound showed one clear embryo with a heartbeat measuring exactly 8+5 and in a separate sac a visible yolk sac but no heartbeat. I have to go back in 2 weeks to check again and I had kind of assumed that the one without the heartbeat wasn't viable but having read this post I'm not so sure 🙈

Girlinglasses ......i was very early, 5 or 6wks as was an early scan after miscarriage I was having .... I went back after 2wks and the 2nd one then had a heartbeat. That's not to say it's not possible for the same thing to happen to you. Superfetation is a remarkable thing due to some women ovulating twice a month. Fingers crossed x

My scan at 6 weeks only showed one embryo and one yolk sac. Then at 8 weeks was showing two of both! Either superfetation or one twin was hiding behind the other at the 6 week scan - still unsure! I'm thinking of going for another scan at 10 weeks

@xxreeldancerxx @Beau2020 such a variety of things that can happen, who knew! Trying to focus on the fact that at least there is one happy healthy looking embryo in there, and trying not to allow myself to be convinced I'm having two! I think it's fairly unlikely but I guess I'll know either way in about 10 days 😬

Hi I just found out the same thing, how did your pregnancy go?

Faith210 · 07/07/2022 02:18

Any updates on these??! I just had same experience today

Emmy123789 · 28/12/2023 02:57

Any update on yours?? I am having this right now so would love to hear someone’s good story

Hey, just seeing how you got on with your scan currently going through the same thing. Had a scan last week only one baby had a heartbeat and measuring 10 weeks 4 days and the other had no heartbeat measuring 8 weeks 1 days. I know the chances are I’ve lost one. Just looking for a little hope they could have got it wrong
