Headaches at 17w

I’m 17w and the past few days I’ve had terrible headaches for what seems no reason. Has anyone else experienced this and know what could be causing them?

Suddenly raised blood pressure? You should get it checked out. Can you ring the maternity unit and get someone to see you?

Mumma2b2 · 31/12/2019 19:18

I’m due to see my MW Friday so wasn’t sure if I should wait or not, but to be safe I will give the unit a call tomorrow and see if they will see me. Thanks

With me it was dehydration. Are you drinking plenty? Its surprising how much is needed to grow a baby!

Catlover10 · 31/12/2019 19:25

I second dehydration, I’m coming up to 16 and find my head hurts more in evenings when I haven’t drink as much water. It definitely helps even if it isn’t the actual cause of the headaches.

I’m drinking about 2-2.5l of water a day, I stopped caffeine from 7w. I’ve eaten a lot of chocolate over Xmas so I hope it’s nothing to do with that?!Hmm

Could just be the bug that's going round may not be pregnancy related but if in doubt give your midwife a call

Through this pregnancy and the last I've had horrible headaches down one side of my head come on suddenly and last for a couple of days. Last time I ended up at the docs and I'm pretty sure he was checking for signs of stroke.

Never found out what it was all about but I would guess it was hormonal. It is the absolute pits not being able to take ibuprofen. Paracetamol didn't touch them. The only thing that eased it a bit was strong tea - think it was the caffeine - but you can't have too much of that either. Oh and sleep - going and having a lie down sometimes made them go away.

Thank you everyone. I appreciate your comments.

There's an awful lot of caffeine in chocolate, you'd be surprised.

I had quite severe headaches from 11 weeks until 22 weeks. I thought it was my troth which needed root canal. My dentist insisted not.
