Early private scan

So I’ve booked an early private scan next week, I will be 8 weeks at this time.

This is my first pregnancy, I’m just wondering what to expect? I’m not sure if there is much they are able to see this early on.

I still haven’t heard back from the midwife team at the hospital yet, so literally totally in the dark and the only ‘confirmation’ I’ve had is the positive tests I did weeks ago, so I’m hoping the scan provides me some peace of mind ☺️

Congratulations. At 8 weeks you would see a odd shaped blob with a heartbeat flickering away. This was our private scan measuring at 9weeks exactly.

It’s normal to hear nothing from midwife team until they send you your booking appointment, usually between 8&10 weeks (ours was at 11 weeks, they contacted me at 9.5 weeks) and they won’t confirm a pregnancy either as HPT are so reliable. The 12 week scan is the first ‘confirmation’ you’ll get

I had a private scan at 6 weeks, we could see something with an abdominal scan but not much so ended up having an internal scan. Go with a full bladder as this will help them do an abdominal scan, they'll ask you to empty your bladder if you need an internal. I found it a touch uncomfortable but so worth it.

The baby literally looked like a little bean, you can't make out anything really at that stage but we could see the heartbeat. They checked my womb and everything to make sure everything looked healthy.

I know what you mean about not having confirmation, for those first 12 weeks I literally saw the positive tests as my baby, they were the only things that confirmed it was real!

I had a scan at what I thought was 8 weeks (although measured 9) and could see our tiny bean with a flickering heartbeat. The heartbeat was much more obvious at the early scan than my 12 week one. This might be because I had an internal for the early one, the clinic staff said it’s much easier to get a clear picture from an internal scan at early stages (even though us a bit less comfortable!)
