I am 5 weeks and it looks like my daughter may be coming down with chicken pox. Random pimple spots over body. Any precautions I should take.

If you haven't had chicken pox or haven't been immunised, urgently call your GP or out of hours GP. Chicken Pox is really dangerous in pregnancy.

Have you had it before? It's not normally an issue if you have had it already as a child

EstebanTheMagnificent · 28/12/2019 17:24

Have you had it?

If so, you’re almost certainly immune so there’s nothing to worry about. If not, you need to see your GP ASAP.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I have had it. I was 6 and now 34. Now sure i have had any jabs for it tho.

You wouldn't have had immunisation without paying for as it's not on the UK schedule. If you're worried you could get tested to see if you are immune

Get in touch with your midwife for advice. I caught chickenpox from my son when I was 25 weeks pregnant, even though I'd had it as a child so thought I would have been immune. I was given antiviral medication within 24 hours and extra monitoring throughout the rest of my pregnancy to check for an issues, baby was absolutely fine.

Sorry misread 15 weeks not 5 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ GP for advice ASAP.

Jemima89 · 28/12/2019 19:50

Two of my kids had it when I was pregnant. The midwife told me if I'd had it myself I would be fine and I was. She also said even if I had contracted it, the chances if it affecting the baby was still low, and that even then it was still unlikely to cause serious harm. But do seek medical advice yourself for reassurance.
