Miscarriage infection- advice?

Hello

I know this isn’t the miscarriage board but i thought perhaps more people here would answer...

As i previously posted i had some spotting since beginning of my pregnancy but scand at EPU in UK where i live showed normal with small fetal pole and sac but at 6w1d after flying abroad i started having brown blood for three days it then turned into bright red blood and contractions and i had a scan at the local hospital which couldnt locate any pregnancy anymore. So i technically officially miscarried at 6w5 that was on 24/12.
I had heavy bleeding for few days but only passed two medium pieces (sorry for tmi).
But since last night bleeding had completely stopped but horrible sharp pain on left side which kept me awake.
I went to the hospital again today and they examined me - which was a torture given the pain- they said my uterus is inflamed and suspect an infection because of incomplete miscarriage, they also said the uterus had tilted to the left (which is where i have the pain). They couldn’t scan today as it’s the weekend apparently - weird system. And asked me to come back on monday to get the scan and gave me antibiotics and anti inflammatory/pain killers.
They said i will probably need either cytotec or surgery to empty if the scan shows the incomplete miscarriage...

Honestly i am lost. This first pregnancy has turned into a nightmare. I was starting to think of ttc again and now i am in pain and not seeing the end of this.
This was supposed to be a nice break abroad and i am trying to remain positive but it keeps getting worse...

Not sure what i expect as answer but maybe someone had similar issues and can give me advice? How to manage? Tips?

What is better medication or surgery?

Can it get worse? Sad

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this, it's really hard, I went through a very very similar experience last year and I know how you must be feeling.
If they find your uterus is still not clean after the miscarriage the doctors will give you a choice as you mentioned, but it's still your call to decide what to do. In my case they recommended that I'd wait instead of having a D&C as they thought I'd pass it naturally with time because I was still spotting (the tinniest amount). However that never happened and I ended up with an infection, was put in antibiotics and had the surgery. This all happened over a few weeks. In hindsight I wish I had the surgery rather than waiting. I couldn't move on mentally while I was still dealing with the physical aftermath of the miscarriage. It's a personal decision, choose what it's best for you, be really kind to yourself and take it easy. There's a good thread I found on MN on how to deal with a miscarriage. I'll try to find it for you. Hope you feel better soon. Xx

It might be useful to read other's experiences:

@Ladybug84 thank you for the reply and the thread, it’s helpful to read other people’s stories and tips.

The medication seemed to be working for me- much less pain (just one big cramp after morning urine) and the discharge seems more normal just a tiny bit of spotting after the exam yesterday.

I actually feel more myself now that the pain is gone but i wonder if it will be ok when i stop the antiobiotics and pain killer?

The idea of surgery to go inside and scoop stuff freaks me out but i also see the point of not waiting and avoiding this infection...

I just hope that tomorrow they will say i won’t need anything though... and that it was just a small infection

But thank you so much for the reply! Flowers
